Classic Hat + Mittens In Wigeon
With a cozy folded hem and Wigeon’s soft touch, our Classic Hat + Mittens have a straightforward appeal and a simple beauty that are truly timeless.
The double thickness of the folded hem gives you extra warmth and security right where you need it most, keeping your ears warm and your hat in place and protecting your wrists from sneaky drafts and snowflakes, too.
If you haven’t knit a folded hem before, this is the perfect pattern for learning! These small projects let you practice on fewer stitches, and the crisp stitch definition of Wigeon makes it easy to see everything clearly. And of course, we have tutorials to walk you through every step!
Snowman-building, winter walks through the woods, or commuting… Wigeon’s 100% fine Falkland merino is soft enough that you’ll want to wear it everywhere and hardy enough for whatever winter brings.
Wigeon’s tidy spin and three even plies also mean that your hat and mittens will still be beautiful at the end of the season, warding off pills and holding their shape.
A beautiful no-fuss yarn for some wonderful no-fuss knitting… Cast on for a classic with your favorite color of Wigeon and enjoy the enduring charm of this lovely set!

I love making Beanie style hats.
I would love to try this hat pattern, thank you!
Thanks
Thanks.
Thanks for the free pattern.
Purl Soho patterns are always beautifully clear to follow, and though I have made many types of hats and mittens, these are 1step above. Thank you!
Hi Susan,
Thank you so much for the kind review! If you ever need further clarification on a pattern or assistance, we are always happy to help!
Happy knitting,
Gavriella
Hello can you share where I can find the sweater pattern the model is wearing? Thanks
Hi Charisma,
Thank you for writing in! The sweater the model is wearing is store-bought actually. Our Lightweight Raglan Pullover or our Lap Shoulder Pullover would make great alternatives to the one seen here! I hope this helps but please let us know if you have any questions!
Happy knitting,
Gavriella
Newbie question here…I just started to make a large amd want to make sure I’m interpreting instructions correctly. Completed provisional cast on for the hat cuff and finished round 1,2, & 3…then it occurred to me stitches are not progressively reducing…did I miss a passover..? Or should I expect 156 stitches per row for six inches until cuff is done…? Again sorry I’m new-ish at this , thank you!!!
Hi Ksea,
Thank you for writing in! That is correct and it sounds like you are right on track. You will have 156 stitches for the size large and will knit the entire 6″ with all 156 stitches. I hope this helps but please let me know if you have any other questions!
Happy knitting,
Gavriella
I can use circular needles but would prefer straight needles. Can I substitute the straight for the circular needles. Thank you
Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for writing in! I’m afraid that straight needles won’t work for this pattern. You’ll be working in the round so you will need a way to work in a continuous spiral for this hat. You could also use double-pointed needles instead if that works better for you. I’d recommend giving the All Roads Hat and Mittens pattern a try as well as they are both knit flat and are great for straight needles! I hope this helps!
Happy knitting,
Gavriella
