Thank you for the pattern. Is there a way to download it to my tablet? I only see a print or save to favorites option?
Thanks again,
Susan
Hi Susan,
Thanks for writing in! You absolutely can print or download each pattern as a PDF. If you’re on a desktop version of the site, you will find a “print” icon in the right column just below the date and tags. If you’re on a mobile version of the site, you will find a “print” icon below the pattern and above the comments.
Follow the easy on-screen instructions to delete whichever parts of the pattern you don’t want to print or save. For example, you may decide to shorten the pattern by omitting certain images or the list of materials.
I hope that this helps!

I have a beginners question – why is the blanket knit using circular needles? Just trying to visualize a flat blanket that appears to be knit in the round … Thanks !
Hi Barbara,
Thanks for the question. We use circular needles for knitting flat blankets because the cord lets you cast on a lot of stitches. You can knit flat on circular needles — you just have to treat them like two separate flat needles and turn your work every row. You never join in the round for this pattern, so no need to worry about knitting in the round.

I love the new colors in the super easy crib blanket in the Super Soft Merino Wool in Adobe!
I would love to make it for me! How much more yarn would I need and stitches to add to make this beautiful blanket ? Thank you!
Hi Sue,
Thanks for writing in and for your kind words! In order to be able to better help you out, can you let me know how large you would like to make the blanket? The current measurements of this blanket in Super Soft Merino are 30 inches x 32 inches. Once we know the dimensions that you are aiming for, we will have a better idea of how much yarn and a cast on number!
I look forward to hearing from you!
Cassy
Like the size of the Super Easy Lap Blanket
Which is 35 x 44
Hi Sue,
Thanks for writing back! The size that you are hoping to make is about 1.6 times larger than the one above. For this I would suggest buying 2 kits and knitting 1.5 skeins for each stripe. This will leave you with some additional yarn. Alternately, you could purchase 5 additional skeins and make uneven sized stripes; perhaps making the first and last stripes 3 skeins long and the middle stripe 2 skeins long.
As to a cast on number, I would suggest casting on 96 stitches and this will yield a blanket that is 35 inches wide!
I hope that this helps!
Cassy
What size needles and gauge should I use for the crib blanket.
Hi Polly,
Thanks for writing in! We used US 7 needles and a gauge of 18 stitches to four inches for our Worsted Twist blanket, and US 13 needles and a gauge of 11 stitches to four inches for our Super Soft Merino blanket. For more details, you can review the full patterns for both the Super Easy Crib Blanket in Worsted Twist and the Super Easy Crib Blanket in Super Soft Merino.
Happy knitting!

Is this merino wool considered a super bulky weight #6?
Thank you
Hi Marsha,
Thanks for writing in! Our Super Soft Merino comes in at 2.75 – 3.25 stitches per inch. It looks like based on the yarn council categories, this yarn falls between a 5 and a 6.
I hope that this helps!
Cassy
Hiya!
I just ordered the thundercloud in worsted twist. I ordered two bundles because I want to make this a bigger blanket. Any suggestions as to how to adjust the pattern?
Thanks so much,
Merrie Henley
Hi Merrie,
Thanks for the question. It’s hard to say how you should adjust the pattern since I don’t know what size you’d like to make. When you have a bunch of yarn but don’t know how to adjust the pattern for a blanket, it’s best to knit on the bias because you’ll divide your yardage in half for a square blanket and in thirds for a rectangular blanket. Take a look at our Colorblock Bias Blanket and Rectangular Colorblock Bias Blanket for examples on bias knitting. Hope this helps!
Best of luck and happy knitting!
-Adam
I came into the store and bought Cascade washable merino for a baby blanket – I am new to knitting and calculated wrong and the blanket is about 40 inches wide! How long does it have to be? Any suggestions as to how to avoid needing to make a huge blanket?
Would it look really strange for the stripes to be vertical (i.e. the garter stitch would go north/south?
Hello Addie!
Thank you for writing in! A 40-inch wide baby blanket is totally okay! If you’d like your blanket to be rectangular like ours you could make it 28-inches long with 4-inch stripes or 35-inches long with 5-inch stripes. Does that make sense? Please let us know!
Best wishes,
Kumeko
Thanks! Just to be clear then, you’re suggesting making the currently 40 inch wide “bottom” edge the side edge (i.e. turning it on its side) so it’ll be 35 inches wide and 40 inches long?
Addie,
Hey! It’s totally up to you, you can keep the 40-inch side as the bottom edge, keeping your stripes horizontal or you can move it to the side and have your stripes going vertical. Either way it’s going to look great.
Best,
Kumeko
Can this be done in stockinette stitch?
Hi Pat,
Thanks for the question! You can knit this blanket in stockinette stitch but it will curl. I suggest knitting a garter stitch border all around or picking up and knitting a border at the end to flatten it out. Good luck and happy knitting!
-Adam
Hi there, how would you suggest revising the pattern/yarn usage to make this blanket for my daughter to take to college? Thank you!
Hi Yolanda,
Thanks for writing in! We would be happy to help you figure out how to enlarge these blankets! First you will need to decide what size you would like the blanket to be and which version of the blanket you would like to make. You can then multiply the width by the number of stitches per inch to get your cast on number. We can also certainly help you figure out how much yarn you will need once you have an idea of size. You could double or triple the width of the stripes or knit the stripes in multiple repeats or even knit the stripes in one direction and then reverse them! It is up to what you think will look best!
I hope that this helps and please let us know if we can be of more help!
Cassy
Hi, just trying to find the Eleventh Hour Marled Blanket wool kit for purchasing and wondering how much it is. Many thanks Jan
Hi Jan,
Thanks for writing in! While we do not have a kit available for the Eleventh Hour Marled Blanket, you can certainly purchase all of the yarn that you need for it from us! You will need 8 skeins of Gentle Giant and 7 skeins of Super Soft Merino.
I hope that this helps!
Cassy
Do you think it would work to do this in a DK yarn? Would you still use size 7 needles, or something different? Thank you!
Hi Sara,
Thanks for writing in! We have done a DK version of this blanket. We used US 7 needles and got a blanket that was 24 x 28 inches. The pattern for that version can be found here: https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2012/08/18/new-super-easy-baby-blanket/
Best,

Do you recommend blocking this blanket when done and, if so, which method, soaking or just spraying? I need to even out my stitches. ?
Hi Catherine,
Thanks for writing in! You can certainly block this lovely blanket. It does help to even out your stitches, creating a beautiful finished product! Spraying and steaming would work well and would allow the blanket to dry more quickly. You can also wet block the blanket but this will take quite a bit more drying time and may not be optimal for all yarns. I would suggest spraying and steaming here and you should be all set!
Best,
Cassy
Thanks!
Hi,
Should I use a 24 or 32 inch circular needle for the super soft merino blanket?
Hi Mindy,
Thanks for writing in! I would suggest using a 32″ or 40″ for the Super Soft Merino version of this blanket. That way you should have enough room on your needle without the stitches being too bunched up!
Happy knitting!
Cassy
Thank you so much!
I would like to complete this pattern in the super soft merino yarn. I prefer a full size afghan measuring 48-36 inches wide by 60-70 inches long. Could you please advise me on how much yarn to purchase? Thank you!
Hello Mel,
Thanks for writing in! To create a blanket that is sized 36″-48″ by 60″-70″ you will need 15-22 skeins of Super Soft.
Let me know if you have any further questions!
-Marilla
hello,I want to knit the super easy blanket in worsted twist but
I would like to do it in seed stitch and in size 40″x40″,could you please advise me as to how many skeins would i need. Thank you for your help.
Hello Marie,
Thank you for your interest! I believe you would need 10 to 11 skeins of worsted yarn. I hope this helps!
Warmly,
Marilla
I would like to make a Super Easy Blanket using all Heirloom White Super Soft Merino, 1000SSM, measuring 48″X 68″. Can you tell me how many stitches to cast on and how many skeins of yarn I would need to order?
Hi Martha,
Thanks for writing in! Based on the gauge here, I would suggest casting on 132 stitches (2.75 stitches per inch x 48″ = 132 stitches). I also think that you will need 25 skeins of Heirloom White.
I hope that this helps!
Cassy
And, one more question (sorry)! Why is there a couple of yards left in the 7th skein when you finish knitting? That seemed like quite a bit of extra yarn.
Hi Mary Ann,
Thanks for writing in! You will want to leave a few yards at the end in order to have enough yarn to bind off. I find that it takes roughly 2.5-3 times the amount of yarn to bind off as it does to knit a single row. By leaving a few yards unknit, you should be leaving yourself enough to bind off and have a good tail to weave in!
Best,
Cassy
Hi Cassy,
Thanks, it does, I’ve never left that much before to bind off, so I appreciate the advice. Given that, with the number of stitches to cast on, if I do a long tail cast on (using the pattern and yarn as written), do you have an estimate of how many inches/yards, I would need to allot on the “tail”? Any guidance would be appreciated as I found that particularly hard to estimate, particularly when there are a lot of stitches to cast on.
Mary Ann
Hi Mary Ann,
Thanks for checking back in! The long tail cast on will also take roughly 3 times the wide of the intended cast on. That is to say that if your cast edge should be 30 inches wide, you will need roughly 90 inches of yarn. Again, this is a slight overestimate but I never regret having a little more than I need, especially with a large cast on numbers!
Happy knitting!
Cassy
Thank you, that makes perfect sense, I had not considered how much yarn I would need to cast off.
As far as casting on, do you have an estimate of how many yards or inches of yarn I should estimate to cast using the worsted twist yarn?
Thank you!
Hi Mary Ann,
Thanks for writing back! The cast on and cast off will take roughly the same amount of yarn! This is a good piece to keep in your back pocket!
Happy knitting!
Cassy
Hi purl soho, I am so glad I found your site. Everything is beautiful but I am obsessed with this blanket in color palette thundercloud. My local yarn shop has Malabrigo Worsted. Can you please suggest a color pattern that would be similar to thundercloud? Thanks you for the inspiration~ Carmelita
Hi Carmelita,
Thank you so much for your kind words! Thundercloud is a beautiful and subtle color palette. As we do not carry Malabrigo, it is challenging to put together a similar palette. Especially when it comes to hand dyes, it is difficult to tell what colors really look like in person. That said, our Thundercloud starts with an undyed off white and moves through pale grays to blue grays. I’d suggest going to your LYS and playing with color keeping this progression in mind! So long as you love it, it will be beautiful!
Best,
Cassy
Hi! I love this pattern! I have crocheted 2 as baby gifts. I would like to crochet a larger size for a friend. I’m thinking 36 wide x 54 length. How many chain stitches would I do and how many skeins of each color would I use?
Thank you so much for your help!
Hi Melinda,
Thanks for writing in and for your kind words! To make a blanket of 36 x 54 inches, you will need 2 skeins of each color although you will not use the whole of each skein. You will crochet each color until you reach 7 3/4 inches before beginning the next color. If you are a beginner knitter, you will chain 136. If you are a more experienced crocheter, you will make a Foundation Single Crochet of 134 stitches.
I hope that this helps!
Cassy
I love the pink bluff bundle and would like to knit a super easy blanket but in a throw or lap blanket size for my daughter. Could you give me an idea how many bundles I would need to do this and the number of stitches to cast on? I was thinking if I purchased two bundles and cast on half as many stitches again would give about the correct ratio of width and length. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Hi Lucie,
Thanks for writing in! You can certainly alter the size of these lovely blankets. If you would like to knit a throw (roughly 50 x 65 inches) using Worsted Twist, you will need roughly 2.7 times the amount of yarn. I would suggest getting 3 bundles and knitting each stripe until it is 9 1/4 inch wide. Your cast on number will be 225 stitches. If you would like to use just 2 bundles, you could knit a blanket that is 39 x 46 inches by casting on 176 stitches.
I hope that this helps!
Cassy
Thanks so much Cassie – my wool just arrived and am keen to get started!
I am putting together the Little Chickadee Bundle I have all of them ready to purchase, but one is missing the Oatmeal Grey.
What would you suggest to replace?
This is with the Worsted Twisted.
Thank you!
Hi Janet,
Thanks for writing in! I’m sorry we’re out of Oatmeal Gray, but I think there are a few substitutes that would work well! If you would like to stay with a neutral palette, either Sea Salt or Tabby Gray would blend in nicely with the rest of the Little Chickadee Bundle. Since the original bundle is so neutral toned though, you also have the option of throwing in a splash of just about any color! I think Artemisia Green, Faded Blue, or Gray Fig would be especially lovely, or for something really fun, Super Pink or Yellow Yellow would really pop!
I hope that helps and please let us know how it turns out!
Julianna
Thank you,
À wonderfull sens offre coloris, ans à beautyfull blanket..
HI
would the cotton pure make a nice lightweight fabric for this blanket? Hot climate baby
can you tell me if any modifications will be necessary?
thank you so much!
Hi Mar,
Thanks for writing in! Cotton Pure is quite a bit thinner than either Worsted Twist or Super Soft Merino, so I would suggest taking a look at our New Super Easy Baby Blanket out of Koigu Kersti, which is almost the same weight as Cotton Pure! It is probably a good idea to knit a gauge swatch anyway, but Cotton Pure should substitute quite well in this pattern, and you will need one skein of each of your selected colors.
Best,
Julianna
Can I use gentle giant to make this blanket? How many stitches and what size needle? Thank you!
Hi Stephanie,
Thank you for writing in! You can absolutely use Gentle Giant to create a supremely squishy Super Easy Crib Blanket! Because this is a bulkier yarn it will require different yardage (8 skeins of Gentle Giant should suffice), different needles (I recommend a US size 19) and a different number of stitches to start. To figure out your cast on number, you will want to knit a gauge swatch in pattern. Once you know how many stitches you are getting per inch, you can multiply that number by the width that you would like and cast on!
I hope that helps!
Gaby
Thank you Gaby!!
Hello! I would like to make the crib blanket in worsted twist. I love the thundercloud bundle, but see it is no longer in stock. Would you have any other bundle recommendations?
Hi Ashley.
Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately many of our Worsted Twist shades/bundles are currently out of stock. Two beautiful options that are available in the Super Easy Blanket in Worsted Twist Bundle are Puffin and Shoreline. They are a bit on the darker side of the color spectrum, but are both gorgeous color combinations that would make lovely crib blankets! You could also build your own bundle with 7 skeins of Worsted Twist. If a color happens to be out of stock you can put your email in on the product page and we will notify you as soon as it is back in stock!
Happy knitting!
Gianna
Hi there,
I would like to crochet this and have the blanket be 60 x 72. Would you mind helping me out with the pattern? I would so appreciate it!
Hi Robin,
Thanks for reaching out! Luckily, we already have a crochet version of this pattern available! Please follow our Crocheted Super Easy Baby Blanket for the free pattern!
All the best,
Gianna
Can you please list the names of the colors in the Worsted Twist Sari palette?
Hi Yvette,
Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, many of the colors in the Sari bundle have been discontinued and are no longer available. However, I can recommend a different palette that would be similar! I would recommend Worsted Twist in Yellow Yellow, Peony Pink, Mountain Rose, Bougainvillea Pink, Red Panda, Heirloom White and Purple Foxglove.
I hope this helps!
Warmly,
Gianna
I just saw in a previous comment that the Thundercloud bundle is out of stock. Would you let me know what colors were in that bundle so I can check back for new shipments.
Also, approximately how much of each color would I need for an adult lap blanket.
Thank you.
Hi Jane,
Thanks for reaching out! The Thundercloud bundle is out of stock and unfortunately not coming back since many of the colors have been discontinued. However I could recommend a different but similar color palette! I would recommend using Worsted Twist in Heirloom White, Reed Gray, Ash Gray, Mountain Blue, Gray Shade, Salt and Pepper, and Stillwater Blue. For a lap blanket I would recommend 2 skeins of each color!
I hope this helps, happy knitting!
Gianna
Which worsted twist yarn colours make up the “Thundercloud” bundle? It is hard to tell from the photos.
Hi Diane,
Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, many of the colors in the Thundercloud bundle have been discontinued. However, I could suggest an alternative color palette if you are interested! I would recommend Worsted Twist in Heirloom White, Reed Gray, Ash Gray, Salt + Pepper, Gray Shape, Night Blue and Stillwater Blue!
Warmly,
Gianna
Hi,
I’d like to make a throw that’s 48 inches by 60 inches. Can you tell me how much yarn in the worsted twist and the super soft merino (not sure which I will go with) will be needed?
Hi Jeanne,
Thanks for reaching out! For either Worsted Twist or Super Soft Merino, you will need 2 skeins of each color for a 48″ x 60″ blanket!
Warmly,
Gianna
Would you tell me which colors are in the adobe palette? Thanks!
Hi Ada,
Thanks for reaching out! I’m afraid that several of the colors of Super Soft Merino that were included in the Adobe colorway bundle have been discontinued and are no longer available for purchase! The colors that we still carry that were used in the Adobe bundle are:
Heirloom White
Oatmeal Gray
*Honey Pink (discontinued)
*Rose Granite (discontinued)
Sea Salt
Oyster Gray
*Turmeric Yellow (discontinued)
If you were interested in substituting colors for the two that we no longer carry, I’d recommend using Red Gingham in place of Honey Pink, Alizarin Crimson in place of Rose Granite, and Yellow Yellow in place of Turmeric Yellow. Or if you like a lighter feel, you could use Artemisia Green, Gray Denim, and Peachy Pink instead. Hope this helps!
All the best,
Lili
I adore the color palette in the old Thundercloud and ocean-y paletes in general. I would like to make a Super Easy Baby Blanket in a slightly smaller “blankie” size. Worsted Twist, Super soft Merino or Worsted Cotton are yarns I’m considering. Any suggestions on color palettes in any of these yarns or other yarns with that color scheme? The softer the better and washable yarn would be a plus but not imperative. Also, how would I adjust the pattern for a “blankie” size? Many thanks!
Hi Judy,
Thank you for your interest in this blanket! We have redone this pattern in many yarns over the years, so I wanted to point out our Super Easy Baby Blanket in Morning! Morning is a machine washable, super soft blend of organically grown cotton and hypoallergenic yak, making it perfect for being around a baby. We put together some bundles here, and it sounds like the Peninsula or Piazza colorways may catch your eye.
As for the yarns you mentioned, I would suggest using the Super Soft Merino bundle in Wild Onion, or Worsted Twist in these colors: Mountain Blue, Blue Pansy, Night Blue, Stillwater Blue, Gray Shade, Ash Gray, Reed Gray, and Heirloom White.
And finally, to make a smaller blanket, you can cast on fewer stitches and knit shorter stripes for an all around smaller scale of the same design!
I hope this helps with your project planning, and happy knitting!
All the best,
Margaret
What fun! Ty
Which is a chunkier yarn…worsted twist or super soft merino?
Hi Faith,
Thanks for reaching out! Super Soft Merino is a bulky weight yarn, so it’s chunkier/thicker than Worsted Twist, which was worsted weight. Hope this helps!
All the best,
Lili
