Featherdown Wrap
A big, stylish swath of fabric, our Featherdown Wrap pattern is as miraculously light as its name suggests, all thanks to Pouf, our super soft new yarn that’s literally spun around air!
Inspired by the oversized blanket scarves popping up on the streets of Paris, the Featherdown Wrap is a version that anyone can knit for themselves. It’s all easy knitting in stockinette stitch with an impactful color change 2/3 the way through, and in lofty Pouf, beginners and confident knitters alike will love every stitch!
Pouf’s unique spin whips a 50/50 mix of long-fiber alpaca and fine highland wool into an airy strand with a hollow core that makes it as insulating as a down comforter. The slightly thick-and-thin spin gives gorgeous texture to even the simplest stitches, and stockinette is no exception!
A light, fluffy ball of fun, Pouf is a pure delight in your hands and on your knitting needles. It’s oh-so soft right from the ball as you knit, and it gets even softer when you block your finished fabric, relaxing into a squishy, dreamy fabric that you’ll love to wear right up next to your skin.
Each 100-gram ball gives you tons of yardage for a super bulky-weight yarn… Fully 108 yards of joy! Pick any two from Pouf‘s palette of 23 colors, a mix of sheep-y neutrals and natural pops. You’ll need 4 balls of your main color and 2 of your contrast to make your Featherdown Wrap.
Cast on for this elegant knit that will keep you warm without weighing you down or overwhelming you.
Whether you keep your Featherdown Wrap for yourself or gift it to a stylish someone on your list, you’ll marvel at the big, beautiful magic of Pouf!

Wow! Could you please recommend some color combos that would be good for men? This would be a great gift! Thanks
Hi Blair,
We are so happy to hear you love this pattern as much as we do! For some great color combinations, I’d suggest the following:
1. Hot Coffee + Fresh Nutmeg
2. Stillwater Blue + Field Mouse
3. Gray Denim + Dark Denim
I hope this helps but please let us know if you have any other questions!
All the best,
Gavriella
Great question and thank you for the wonderful color combos. This scarf is a beauty!
The yarn looks beautiful. Is it at all itchy? Would a sensitive person be comfortable with it?
Hi Eileen,
Thanks for writing in! Alpaca is a very soft fiber, and it isn’t typically something people are sensitive to. If you want to try it out first without committing to buying an entire skein, then I’d recommend picking up a color card!
All the best,
Lili
Love this pattern but I would like to make it less wide, maybe 10 or 15” instead of the 20” in the pattern. I will check the gauge but can you tell me approximately how much yarn I would need and how many stitches to cast on?
Hi Maryjane,
I’m more than happy to calculate this for you! Would you mind letting me know if you prefer 10 or 15 inches? It’ll make it easier for me to only have to do one set of calculations!
All the best,
Lili
That would be helpful. 10” would work.
Great! In that case, you’ll need exactly half the yardage the original pattern requires. So that would end up being 192.5 yards (2 skeins) of the main color and 65 yards (1 skein) of the contrast color.
To figure out your cast-on number, all you need to do is multiply the number of stitches per inch (2.75 stitches, according to the gauge of the pattern) by the width you want and round that to the nearest whole number. Then you can cast on that rounded number and follow the pattern as written!
All the best,
Lili
Thanks!
this is gorgeous and simple. I want to do fresh pickel and pansy for the contrasting color. but can you tell me how many stitches to cast on to make it more of a scarf width than a wrap?
thanks so much!
Hi Robin,
I’m happy to show you how to calculate your new cast-on number! All you need to do is multiply the number of stitches per inch (2.75 stitches, according to the gauge of the pattern) by the width you want and rounding that to the nearest whole number. Then you can cast on that rounded number and follow the pattern as written!
All the best,
Lili
Hi there — my question is, does Pouf have any give? I made the Fiddlehead blanket, which I ADORE, but it was hard on my hands to make it. I’d love to use Pouf but may have to wait for my joints to recover…. THANK YOU.
Hi Mary Ellen,
I’m so sorry to hear that Fiddlehead was difficult to work with! I’m afraid that Pouf is similar though, it’s a very inelastic yarn. You might prefer working with something like Plenty, which has a different texture but is a whole lot more springy!
All the best,
Lili
And if I would want to turn this into a throw – I would assume wider but shorter – how would I do that? Thanks!
Hi Jenny,
You can do that in the same way as the knitters who want to turn this pattern into a scarf! All you need to do is multiply the number of stitches per inch (2.75 stitches, according to the gauge of the pattern) by the width you want and round that to the nearest whole number. Then you can cast on that rounded number and follow the pattern as written! You can also change how many rows you knit in each color if you want to adjust the widths of the color blocks.
All the best,
Lili
Could you use a seed stitch instead or would that be too difficult with this yarn?
Hi Kate,
You could totally work in seed stitch with Pouf!
All the best,
Lili
Love this yarn. Could you reccomend a few hat patterns that work with this gauge?
Hi Jennifer,
Pouf is a super bulky weight yarn, so it would work great for our Easy Hat and our Nesting Hat.
All the best,
Lili
Just my 2: I’m doing a scarf on 30 stitches with 2 skeins of one color and 4 of the other. Pouf is WONDERFUL yarn. It’s fluffy, is knitting up really fast and I think will make a cozy, warm, fluffy scarf for a gift.
I didn’t like Fiddlehead, either, due to not only the inelasticity of the yarn, but the little fluffs kept getting stuck in the stitches and it didn’t knit smoothly, at all.
Pouf is much easier to deal with. Although it doesn’t stretch much, you can knit loosely with hands relaxed and it will smoothly knit up without a struggle. I’m so far a very big Pouf Fan, It’s beautiful yarn.
HELLO! WHICH COLOR IS MOST ORANGE?
Hi Michele,
Thanks for writing in! Kiln Red is definitely the most orange color of Pouf!
All the best,
Lili
Does this yarn shed?
Hi Lindsey,
We haven’t had any reports of Pouf shedding yet! If you find that it sheds a little bit though, then I would recommend wet blocking your finished project since that helps lock the fibers into place!
All the best,
Lili
Hi Lili
I just finished the cowl with pouf and inside out hat. I had bought 4 balls of crocus bud but, I only used two balls. I would like to do this wrap. What color would go with crocus bud for darker color? I was looking at either garden pansy or dark denim. My friend Steve is going to get me the high tide so I can make another cowl. I just love the pouf yarn.
Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for writing in! We are happy to hear you love Pouf as much as we do! I think Dark Denim would be a wonderful option but Juniper Green could be a great pairing as well!
All the best,
Gavriella
I got this yarn for Christmas in the baby pink hue, and it is a true dream. It is so beautiful that it could bring me to tears. The yarn feels like cotton candy and is the exact shade of the carnival treat as well. It genuinely feels like someone managed to take a bag of fluffy cotton candy and spun it into yarn. Knitting this in stockinette really shows the beauty of the yarn and the entire process is heaven.
