This is so cute and fun! Do you think that Gentle giant in Nighttime Blue with Comet in Deep Space would be a good combination? (Love the blue colorway but I’m a darker/jeweled tones girl, haha!)
Hi Jeni,
Thanks for reaching out and for your kind words! I think that combination would be absolutely lovely for this scarf!
Please let us know how this turns out!
Happy knitting!

What a great, quick pattern – speaking as someone who likes seed stitch but gets tired of knitting it! I’m wondering about making it using Comet in Deep Space and Gentle Giant in Nighttime Blue (possibly the wrong blue?) or Purple Petunia, or even Mallard Green. What do you think?
Hi Rebecca,
Thanks for reaching out! Deep Space Comet and Nighttime Blue would be a perfect match! Purple Petunia and Mallard Green would also be super fun for a contrasting color!
Please let us know how this turns out, happy knitting!

Do you think it would be ok using a 17mm needle so it wouldn’t be as bulky looking?
Hi Adria,
Thanks for writing in! Do you mean a US 17 Needle? A 17mm needle would be a bit larger and would result in a still bulky but more open knit texture. For this pattern we recommend a US 19 needle (15mm) needle since this yarn is categorized as a “Super Bulky” weight.
I hope this helps, happy knitting!

I am having a problem with the gentle giant twisting badly as I knit, making it very difficult to keep the yarn full and fluffy. I don’t normally have a problem with yarn twisting and it’s been very frustrating. Can you please tell me how to solve this problem. The comet is not a problem. Thank you!
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for reaching out! I am sorry to hear that, I know that twisting can be very frustrating… Unfortunately this is somewhat common with single ply yarn and it can come down to how the yarn was wound into a ball from the skein. It can be kind of annoying but the best way to is to stop knitting once it becomes very twisted and rotate the ball until it unwinds before you continue!
I hope this helps, happy knitting!

I love my scarf. Only problem is there was not enough Knitcollage yarn . I followed the directions and cast on 15 stitches of yarn A and knitted 7 inches. Then knitted the 3 skeins of Gentle Giant . Next I joined yarn A and only had enough Comet in Super Pink to knit 3 1/2 inches. So 😥 sad. I knew the second end was going to be “nearly 7 inches”, I don’t think 31/2 or even 4 inches is nearly 7 inches.
Hi Jackie,
Thanks for reaching out! I am sorry to hear that you have run out of yarn! If you email our team at customerservice@purlsoho.com we can help you further from there!
All the best,
Gianna
I do appreciate you sharing this. For anyone who is concerned with this-I ended up laying the yarn out in approximate one yard measures to end up with two equal balls of the comet which provided each end to be roughly equal- happy I did it that way and others might want to do the same.
I already have some Comet in Milky Way and would like to add Gentle Giant to make this scarf. I am looking at Mint Ice, Pigeon Gray, and Elephant Gray. Would any of these colors work?
Hi Senta,
Thanks for writing in! All three of those options would be very interesting with Comet in Milky Way! I think they would all work together very well, I am leaning towards Gentle Giant in Mint Ice, I think that would be a beautiful contrast! Both of the gray shades would also look lovely, I would go with pigeon gray in that case!
I hope this helps and please let us know which you end up going with!
Warmly,
Gianna
Hi Gianna,
Thank you for the help! I went with the Mint Ice as you recommended – I think it will pick up the color of the greenish iridescent tinsel that is in Milky Way.
Best,
Senta
Hi Senta,
That is wonderful! I agree, I think it will be a really great combo with Milky Way! I can’t wait to hear how this turns out!
Warmly,
Gianna
What color besides “Elephant Gray” would work with the “Comet”? Would the “Pigeon Gray” be too light?
Hi Anne,
Thanks for reaching out! Which color of Comet were you interested in? That way I can better help you select a corresponding Gray in Gentle Giant!
Warmly,
Gianna
Whoops. Was thinking of Starship, but might also be interested in meteor shower.
Hi Anne,
Thanks for your response! With Starship Elephant Gray will be the closest match but I think that Pigeon Gray would also look great with it! With Meteor Shower I would recommend Pigeon Gray or even Silver Mauve!
Warmly,
Gianna
Gianna,
Thanks. Silver Mauve is not a good color for me. Any thoughts about which Comet might do well with Heirloom White? And is there any ETA on the Elephant Gray?
Hi Anne,
Thanks for reaching out! With Heirloom White I would recommend Milky Way, Stardust or Cosmic Rays! Although I don’t have a firm estimate on when we will have Elephant Gray back, I anticipate it will be mid-spring! The best way to be notified is to add in your email on the Gentle Giant project page and we will notify you as soon as it is available!
Warmly,
Gianna
I’m using cosmic rays with heirloom white and the colors are fabulous; however, the gentle giant wool turns out to be quite a bit narrower than the comet. I’m using US19 needles. Should I go bigger when I change to the gentle giant yarn? Please help.
Hi Dr. Lynn,
Thanks for reaching out! Gentle Giant is a bit of a thinner yarn compared to Comet so it is completely normal for it to knit up a bit different! Did you check your gauge prior to beginning the scarf? If not I would measure that now and see how the Gentle Giant compares to the gauge and you can asses if you need to adjust your needle size from there!
I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any more questions!
Warmly,
Gianna
