Will Mulberry Merino work as a substitute for Worsted Twist? This pattern was not free.
Hi Deb,
Thanks for reaching out! Mulberry Merino is a bit more fine since it is a sport weight and Worsted Twist is a worsted weight so the gauge would be quite a bit different! I would recommend working a gauge swatch with an appropriate needle size and comparing it to the written gauge of the pattern. You can make any necessary adjustments to the pattern from there! I also recommend checking out our All About Gauge tutorial, it is an excellent resource to use!
Warmly,
Gianna
I made a hat using the “Basic Hat for Everyone” pattern and already knitted the right ear flap. I somehow forgot to count 9 stitches to the left of where I joined the round. Can I adjust it going the other way for the left ear? I’m supposed to count 24 to the right from where I joined the round. Should I add 9 more stitches to the 24 and then pick up the 15 continuing in that direction? It seems that the ear flaps would still be equidistant and cover the ears correctly and the joined point would still be in the back of the head. Is this correct?
Hi Amy,
Thanks for reaching out! You will actually want to make sure you have counted out 9 stitches to left of where you joined cast on. Starting with this stitch and using a double pointed needle you will then pick up 15 stitches! If you don’t start 9 stitches in the hat will not be symmetrical!
I hope this helps, happy knitting!
Gianna
Do you have this in crochet?
Thank you!
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for reaching out! We don’t have this pattern available for crochet but thank you for expressing your interest! I will be sure to pass this along to the rest of the team!
Warmly,
Gianna
Good morning, I am making the Classic Cuffed Hat as a first time knit on circular needles. I have mastered the long tail tubular cast on and am know knitting the rib on circular needles. I have knitted approximately 2 inches and was feeling pretty good UNTIL I looked at the reverse side only to see that I have a large gap between the first and last stitch (a ladder?). I have decided to continue as I am making this as an Easter gift for baby Grandson ! Can you explain how to avoid this on future projects, please?
Hi Laura,
Thanks for reaching out! Sounds like you are off to a great start! My best guess is that the stitches may be getting over stretched in that section. I would be careful to keep the stitches close together so they don’t get stretched out and to pull your yarn tightly when working that specific section!
The good news is this is something that can easily be adjusted by blocking the finished hat!
I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any more questions!
Warmly,
Gianna
Hello! I plan to make the Garter Brim hat with ear flaps for my grandson. Head circumference is 49cm. What size is the Baby size in this pattern? And what would the stretched circumference be using a Worsted weight yarn? Many thanks for your help!!
Hi Harriet,
Thanks for writing in! The worsted weight hat option comes in three sizes: Baby (Kid, Adult), the baby circumference is 15 inches unstretched but will stretch 1-2 inches comfortably!
I hope this helps!
Gianna
