Purl Soho's Basic Hats for Everyone Pattern is a desert-island choice, the kind of pattern that you turn to again and again, year after year. It covers four hat styles: Rolled Brim, Ribbed Brim, Garter Brim, and Garter Brim with Ear Flaps and is sized to fit just about everyone, from baby to grandpa. Always have a hat to wear and to give! Choose one or two skeins of your favorite Worsted Twist colors, and don't wait until you're stranded on an island! Product Details

  • Purl Soho’s Worsted Twist, 100% merino wool. For a one-color hat without a pom pom (pom poms take an additional 40 yards or so), you’ll need…
    • Rolled Brim Hat: 1 (1, 1, 1) skein
    • Ribbed Brim Hat: 1 (1, 1, 1) skein
    • Garter Brim Hat: 1 (1, 1, 2) skein(s)
    • Garter Brim Hat with Ear Flaps: 1 (1, 2, 2) skein(s)
  • US 7, 16-inch circular needles
  • US 7 double pointed needles
  • Optional: Pom Pom Maker

NOTE: For our sample Hats we used combinations of the colors Blue Blue, Blue Pansy, Peony Pink, Mountain Rose, Reed Gray, and Mountain Blue.


20 stitches and 28 rounds = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
