Enjoy a new version of this super popular pattern, now in worsted-weight Plenty, the softest 100% extra fine merino in the world.
There are so many great options in this pattern… Choose from 3 different brims (ribbed, rolled, or garter stitch), a colorblock brim or solid, ear flaps or no, a pom pom topper or plain. Oh, and sizes for everyone, from babies to adults! And now you have a yarn-weight option, too: this pattern in worsted-weight Plenty or our light worsted/DK-weight pattern in 100% cashmere Nigh DK.
The same easy-to-knit crown shaping unifies all that variety, so you can really get in your gift-knitting groove!
As un-scratchy as wool gets, Plenty is made with the softest grade of merino wool there is, and its distinctive high twist gives it a soft, smooth surface (and keeps pills at bay!). This plump worsted-weight beauty knits up quickly, with a very lively bounce to its step that feels amazing in your hands and on your needles!
Plenty‘s palette includes over twenty beautiful colors. From pretty Plumeria Pink to cool Mint Blue, each one is subtly heathered for a depth and complexity of character that adds richness to your knitting.
As wonderful as a Plenty hat is, a Plenty pom pom is pretty out-of-this-world soft and amazing! Be sure to pick up our Pom Pom Maker Set to make perfectly dense, round, and fluffy cap-toppers every time.
Make gift knitting simple… Just pick up a lovely bunch of Plenty colors, mix and match them (go wild!), and knit a colorful custom hat for everyone on your list!

Can I knit ear flaps and I chord separately and just sew on? I am not very good with double point needles.
Hi Amy,
Thanks for writing in! The ear flaps and the i-cords are actually knit flat, so they may not be as tricky as you’re envisioning. You need DPNs (or circular needles) for the i-cords just because you have to slide the stitches to the opposite end of the needle after every row. It’s very different from working on DPNs in the round!
However, because these are hats, you will need to use DPNs in the round for the crown of the hat. If you want to give this a try, we have a wonderful tutorial called How To Knit With Double Pointed Needles. Or, you could opt to use longer circular needles in a magic loop.
All the best,
Lili
Hi, I have the basic hats for everyone pattern. Is this the same pattern but just using plenty? Is there an update to the pattern I have? Thanks!
Hi Linda,
This pattern is slightly different than the original for Worsted Twist since it has a different gauge. We’re more than happy to send you the latest version for free though, since you’ve already purchased the original version! If you’re interested in that, just reach out to us directly by sending an email to [email protected], and we’ll send you the pattern as soon as possible.
All the best,
Lili
I’m getting back into knitting after a long hiatus and am a little unsure what some of the pattern instructions mean.
When making g a gauge swatch for this pattern the instructions say :” 19 stitches and 38 rounds = 4 inches in garter stitch”
What does 38 ROUNDS mean? Is this an example of sliding the work to the right of the needle and leaving a large loop?
Hi Maggie,
Thanks for writing in! Since this hat is knit in the round, swatching in the round will provide the most accurate gauge measurement. And you’re totally correct about how that works. You can read more about Swatching for Circular Gauge in the tutorial I linked!
All the best,
Lili
