Hi!
Before I buy the pattern and yarn, how many skeins are required for a medium and three quarter length sleeves for the top down circular sweater?
Thanks as always,
Randa

I have been searching your site for further information /tutorials on kniting the Top Down Circular Yoke Pullover. I joined you on 5/23/2024 and was in hopes of further instructions or clarifications. I am at the point of dividing sleeves from the yoke but do not understand your instructions. When I think I understand, the stitch counts don’t work out. I have the correct # of stitches (294) for the 5th size; but do not understand the significance of the 1st phrase regarding “Division Round: …. #s of stitches” and can’t come up with the stitch counts to match what the pattern says in that paragraph. is there another explanation for this part of the pattern that I might understand better? Thanks for your anticipated reply. By the way. I am loving your Plein Air yarn that I purchased for this pattern!
Hi Dietje,
Thanks for writing in! It sounds like you may be working from an out-of-date version of the pattern. This version was missing a “k” at the beginning of this round, so the instruction to knit that number of stitches was missing! You can access the most up-to-date version of this pattern by redownloading it from your Purl Soho account. And for quick reference, here’s what the corrected round looks like:
Division Round: K93 (99, 107, 111) (118, 123, 129, 137) (144, 148, 153, 159), place previous 53 (56, 60, 61) (65, 67, 69, 74) (78, 79, 80, 82) stitches onto stitch holders or scrap yarn for Right Sleeve; k132 (142, 154, 160) (171, 179, 188, 199) (209, 217, 225, 235), place previous 53 (56, 60, 61) (65, 67, 69, 74) (78, 79, 80, 82) stitches onto stitch holders or scrap yarn for Left Sleeve; knit to end of round. [158 (172, 188, 198) (212, 224, 238, 250) (262, 276, 290, 306) total stitches: 79 (86, 94, 99) (106, 112, 119, 125) (131, 138, 145, 153) stitches each for Front and Back]
All the best,
Lili
Thanks for your reply, Lili !! Glad i went on your site today to see this response. I kept looking at my emails hoping for a reply; then today it finally dawned on me to check here.
Yes, I wondered why the directions do NOT say “knit” at the beginning of this section! It also is important to read and reread the directions several times ….. until finally they make sense. Thanks again ….. you’ll probably hear from me again (ha, ha).
Well, here I am again! After I have put the first sleeve stitches on hold (65 for my size) , how do I proceed? Am I supposed to knit another 171 stitches, then put the previous 65 sts on waste yarn? Sorry for my lack of understanding this, I just do not want to proceed without being sure. Thanks so much!!
Hi Dietje,
We are happy to help and you exactly correct! After you put the first set of sleeve stitches on your holder, you will knit the next 171 stitches and then place the previous 65 stitches on hold. Finally you will knit back to the beginning of your round. I hope this helps clarify but please let us know if you have any other questions!
Happy knitting,
Gavriella
Im knitting size 34 .
Could you explain increase round 6
[K50923,9,10),kfb] 5(11,28,26)times, knit to end of round
Not quite sure what to do in this round.
Could you explain.
Hi Margaret,
Thank you for asking! The brackets and parentheses indicate the sections of the instructions that you will need to repeat in order to use all the stitches in the row. So for example, since you are making the size 34, you will always follow the first set of numbers in the instruction. You can also check out our handy Reading a Knitting Pattern tutorial that has a great in-depth explanation about asterisks, brackets, and parentheses that I always find very helpful. Please let us know if you have any other questions!
All the best,
Gavriella
In divide for sleeves. What do you mean by previous stitches? Do you knit the 99 stitches and put stitch 1 thru 56 (my size) on the holder. Also do you start at the beginning of the sweater to divide for sleeves?
Hi Louise,
That is correct! You will start the division round at the BOR marker which is also the start of the round. From here, when you place ‘previous stitches’ on holder, you will first knit the stitches and then place the stitches on hold from those you have just knit. I hope this helps!
All the best,
Gavriella
