Tayler Harris For Purl Soho: Offset Stripes Pullover
We interrupt your regularly scheduled knitting to bring you a captivating new design from Tayler Harris: Her Offset Stripes Pullover is very simple, slightly unexpected, and absolutely wonderful!
Tayler knit this sweater in pieces, using intarsia to create the eye-catching, staggered stripes. With just two colors and one switch, it’s the gentlest introduction to intarsia a knitter could hope for… A fantastic pattern for learning a new skill!
After seaming the sides and shoulders together, you pick up and knit the sleeves and neckband in the round, and your sweater is ready for prime time in no time!
Looking for a soft and cozy feel, Tayler cast on for her Offset Stripes Pullover in our gorgeous Brume, a super lovely mix of 58% mohair, 25% wool, and 17% silk.
The mohair component lends a soft halo and texture; the wool brings elasticity and durability; and the silk adds a subtle shine. Altogether, Brume knits up into a wonderfully lightweight, but toasty, sweater. All in all, stunning.
Contrasting neck and cuffs, stripes, or even solid, Tayler loves picking a unique and modern palette and also loves that knitters can use the thirty colors of Brume to do the same. Choose one, two, or three colors and make this showstopping sweater your own!

I immediately fell for this delightful sweater, but can’t abide mohair. Could you please suggest another yarn I could use in the pattern?
May I just add how much I appreciate the knitting patterns and lovely yarn you have on offer? Reading your email is both cheery and educational. Thank you so very much.
Hi Katharine,
Thanks so much for your kind words! I would recommend using either Wigeon or Line Weight for this pattern. The gauge for this pattern falls right in between the typical gauges of those two yarns, so the choice comes down to how dense you’d like the knit fabric to be. Wigeon will create a denser fabric than Line Weight will at the same gauge! Also, both of these yarns are merino wool, so they’re super soft and won’t itch!
All the best,
Lili
Hi there. Mohair and I don’t really get along – can you recommend an alternative yarn for this pattern? Thank you!

Hello, for the stripes version body, it says “ Set-Up Row (wrong side): Work 63 (69, 75, 81, 87) (94, 101, 107, 113) stitches in pattern as established
(see Special Instructions, Selvage Stitches), place marker (pm), work in pattern as established to
end of row.” Which “pattern as established” is it referring to? Does this mean to work a round of main color and k1, purl to last stitch, k1?
Also, I plan to use Good Wool and achieved gauge with size 4 needles. Is there anything to be concerned about in terms of drape or fit with using this yarn?
Thanks!
Hi Nadia,
The “pattern as established” is stockinette stitch maintaining the selvage stitches (which you can find instructions for in the Special Instructions on page 1). So you’re absolutely correct that it’s just k1, purl to last stitch, k1!
In answer to your other question, as long as you’re achieving the gauge, the sweater will fit just fine! The knit fabric will just feel a bit more substantial since Good Wool is more dense than Brume. But it will still drape nicely!
All the best,
Lili
