Little Moons Lace Wrap In Santolina
Our Little Moons Lace Wrap reflects the moon across a deep mountain lake, its image refracted and multiplied over the surface of the water… Such celestial beauty brought to earth!
Pinpricks of light and color peek through the texture of the lace, surrounding our little moons in a galaxy of stars, while strong diagonal lines travel between the lacy crescents, the ripples on our lake’s surface.
It may all look as beautifully complicated as the night sky, but this wrap is wonderfully simple to knit. The lace pattern is an easy ten-row repeat of basic increases and decreases that are just right for keeping the knitting fun!
We knit our Little Moons Wrap in our lovely Santolina, a combination of 70% organically grown cotton, 20% rayon from bamboo, and 10% hemp. It is soft with a gentle shine and a lightness that makes it fantastic for three-season accessories.
Santolina now comes in six new colors, who join a soft and soothing palette of beautifully heathered hues. Add in the gorgeous drape you’d expect from these plant fibers, and you’ll be over the moon for our Little Moons Lace Wrap!

INCREASES
RLI (Right Lifted Increase): Lift right leg of the stitch below the next stitch on the left-hand needle onto the left-hand needle and knit it. [1 stitch increased]
For more information about this technique, please visit our Lifted Increases Tutorial.
M1R purlwise (Make One Right Purlwise, worked on the wrong side): With the left needle, pick up the horizontal strand between the last stitch you knit and the one you’re about to knit, bringing the needle from back to front, then purl through front loop of the strand. This makes a right-leaning increase on the right, or knit, side of the fabric. [1 stitch increased]

I just want the pattern. Why must I leave a comment???? Oh, right–because I can’t print the pattern until I leave a comment. That’s not “free”–that’s quid pro quo.
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for reaching out directly. You can absolutely view and print this pattern without leaving a comment! If you scroll down about halfway down the page, you’ll find the instructions under the “PATTERN” heading. You can read the entire pattern online this way, but if you’d like to print it out, just follow these instructions:
If you’re on your computer, you’ll find a “print” icon in the right column just below the “Save To Favorites” button. If you’re on a mobile version of the site, you will find the “print” icon below the pattern and above the comments.
Click on this button, and a window will pop up where you can delete whichever parts of the pattern you don’t want to print. When you hover over any image or a text block, it will be highlighted in yellow and a “trash” icon will appear. Just click on this icon to delete anything that’s not necessary to the pattern! For example, you may decide to shorten the pattern by omitting certain images or the list of materials. Then, just click on the “Print” button in the upper left-hand corner of the pop-up window!
I hope this helps clarify things, and please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
All the best,
Lili

Would love to see this pattern charted. Great textured look!
Hi Linda,
Thanks for reaching out! At this time we do not have a chart available for this pattern; however, I will be sure to pass your request along to the design team!
All the best,
Lili
Always looking for free patterns as I have a lifetime + of yarn stash!
I’m confused about the pattern stitch. On the copy I downloaded June 4, 2022 it says :
STITCH MULTIPLE
Worked over a multiple of 6 plus 4 stitches.
but now the text online says:
STITCH MULTIPLE
Worked over a multiple of 6 plus 10 stitches.
Which is it, and why the change?
Hi Ruth,
Thanks for reaching out. A 6 + 10 stitch multiple is exactly the same as a 6 + 4 multiple! This is because 6 + 4 = 10, so it winds up allowing the same numbers of stitches. The reason we changed this is because we wanted it to match the chart exactly, and the chart has a 6-stitch repeat, plus 10 additional stitches. Hope this helps clarify things!
All the best,
Lili
The size needle suggested for this yarn in its description is 2 or 3. The size 6 for this pattern is so much larger how does this impact the appearance of the yarn in this scarf compared with description for this yarn. Can a smaller size needle be used in this pattern?
Hi Nancy!
Thank you for your question! We suggest a size 6 needle for this pattern to create a draped fabric with the lace stitch pattern. We found that when knit on a smaller size needle (US 2 or 3), the little moons lace stitch pattern doesn’t flow as well as it does on a size 6!
I hope this helps clarify things, and please feel free to ask any other questions you may have!
All the best,
Margaret
I would like to knit this in a warmer (wool) yarn. What would you suggest?
Hi Catherine,
Thanks for reaching out. This pattern was designed for a fingering weight yarn, so many of our other fingering weight yarns would be perfect! Hope this helps!
All the best,
Lili
I love this pattern! Jake, you have outdone yourself once again. I worked on this pattern multiple times having to tear out and go back a row due to MY mistakes. I was not going to give up for I love the pattern and the design. I decided to review each row I had just stitched before I moved on to next row so I would catch my mistakes before adding more rows. I finished this amazingly beautiful shawl !! It looks beautiful on my friend.
Thanks to you Jake!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Candace! We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed this pattern even with the sections you re-worked, and we will be sure to share your sweet comments with Jake as well!
All the best,
Margaret
I just finished this project and I love it so much! Thank you for the pattern!!!
Hello! I have two skeins of Line Weight in clover green (a gorgeous color) and am thinking of making this scarf. I’m low on yardage, though: the two skeins of Line come to 988yds, while the recommended yardage for this wrap is 1110 yds. I’m happy for the wrap to be a bit narrower/scarf-like if need be. Since the pattern is worked over a multiple of 6 stitches plus 10, do you think I’ll have enough yardage if I cast on 82 stitches instead? Thank you!
Hi Jacqueline,
Thanks for reaching out! If you cast on 82 stitches, then you will have enough yarn with only 2 skeins. In fact, you’d have exactly enough yarn to make a scarf that’s 83 inches long! Hope this helps!
All the best,
Lili
I plan to knit the Little Moons Lace Wrap. It’s lovely. I wonder, do you offer any other yarns, in addition to Santolina, that are appropriate for this pattern?
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for reaching out! I’d recommend pretty much any of our other fingering weight yarns for this pattern. In particular, I think that Linen Quill, Field Linen, or Quartz would be wonderful substitutes!
All the best,
Lili
I just finished knitting the Little Moons Lace shawl using Santolina yarn in Golden Pollen. It is absolutely gorgeous and fun to knit up.
Hi. I was trying the pattern but ended up making a mistake. Any tips on how to rectify the mistake in a row.
When I undo the row, I lose on some stitches.
Please help. Thank you
Hi Loena,
Thanks for reaching out! If the mistake is in a very recent row, I’d recommend carefully unknitting the stitches until you reach the mistake, where you can undo the mistake and then keep knitting forwards from there. To unknit a stitch, insert your left needle into the stitch below the first stitch on the right needle, slide it onto the left needle and off the right needle, and pull the working yarn out of the stitch. Hope this helps you move forward in your project!
All the best,
Lili
How do you think this would work up knit in Cattail Silk? I’d love to know any thoughts or recommendations you may have!
Hi Cynthia,
This wrap would be lovely in Cattail Silk! That yarn will show off the stitch pattern very well and also have a wonderful drape.
As always though, we recommend knitting a gauge swatch before casting on your project, especially when you are substituting yarns. You may need to size up or down your needles in order to get the correct gauge!
All the best,
Lili
