STC Craft | Melanie Falick Books Fall Giveaway!
Ah, October! Time to cozy up with a great craft book and learn something new! This season’s books from STC Craft| Melanie Falick are just the thing to scratch that creative itch! We’re especially excited about Heather Ross Prints, the new offering from creative powerhouse, Heather Ross.
Prints is an empowering resource, walking you through the fascinating steps of creating your own digital textile designs. Heather uses her trademark humor and whimsical sense of style to thoroughly explain the process of using Photoshop to design unique prints. She also includes easy–to-follow instructions for twenty awesome projects, from custom wallpaper, to notebooks, to nightgowns! Plus, the book comes with a DVD (for both Macs and PCs) which contains the artwork to reproduce 50 of Heather’s most beloved prints on your own. Heather is a great teacher with a real gift for demystifying sophisticated projects, making them approachable and fun!
STC‘s other exciting titles this autumn include Kaffe Fasset Dreaming in Color, a behind-the-scenes autobiography of the beloved knitwear and textile designer, and Gertie’s New Book For Better Sewing, a fabulous reference book for garment sewing packed with lessons on couture techniques and customization. You’ll love the vintage fashion and Gertie’s spirited, modern style!
In celebration of this inspiring line-up of new books STC is generously giving away a library of fall releases to one very lucky Purl Bee reader! Update on 10/15/2012
We have a winner: Janessa! She hopes to use her new skills to design a “modern geometric piece” or a “vibrant blue floral.” A big thank you to everyone who entered and shared their great ideas, as well as to STC Craft|Melanie Falick Books for making this fun giveaway possible!
I would sew custom drapes and cushions in my own textile designs as I have the hardest time finding patterns and colors in stores and online that appeal to me and my quirky taste.
What a wonderful giveaway!!!! I really need a new shower curtain… plus possibly I might need a new comforter/duvet cover. I'm sure I would have lots of inspiration!
oh how lovely! what a generous and beautiful give away. i am a traditional printmaker and would love to learn about digital surface design.
thanks for the opportunity

I have considered teaching crafts to nursing home patients or young children when I retire, and think it would be neat to design special shirts or smocks for the students to wear in class.
I would make a quilt for my bed and new covers for my chairs. And totes. I can never have enough totes.
I would love to make my own wallpaper for my future pantry. Oh this could be fun.
I forgot to post what I would make! I would start off with new curtains for the kid's room. Something goofy but not babyish. Then a new duvet cover and shams for my room. More subtle and soothing. So many ideas, so little time!
I would make fabric storage boxes with customized prints for my little boys to store their stuff.
Would love to have these great books. Thanks for the giveaway!
Incredible give away!! I would love to make pillows, great way to change up a look in a room.
how lovely!
For a long time I wanted my son and I to wear clothes made with original prints, mainly tops. So I would use the book to design fabric for both of us (but i wouldn't make matching outfits, I promise).
I would love to create a custom print – I'm inspired by the extreme close-ups and unbelievable detail in nature. I would sew everyday wear items for kids – they need to have excellent style too!
Thank you so much for this amazing giveaway! I wish that I lived in NYC to visit your beautiful store – sadly, am on the opposite coast.
Currently I don't have the skills to do this, but I'd make myself an enormous ballgown printed with dinosaurs! Or cakes. Or both!
What a fabulous giveaway!
I Would make a quilt to hang on my kitchen wall, or dresses for my little girls.
I would make a bucket load of aprons to give as Christmas presents this upcoming holiday season!
I would absolutely love to design a fabric panel to make a children's book out of! Wouldn't that be a wonderful way to meld my love of writing and my love of fiber arts? 🙂
Fantastic and inspirational set of books! Fall is a wonderful time to think about new projects for long, dark, winter nights!
Definitely sew dresses again!
A new skirt, of course (especially if I can use that unicorn print from the Met's tapestry collection!).
I would love to make some unique fabric for some clothes for my girls.
I would make custom curtains of my own design for my dorm room!
I would make a lovely dress! Thanks for the opportunity!!
Oh, I think I would go mad making canvas tote bags with my own digital prints. I also have some super cute nieces and one nephew and think they'd like book bags and sun dresses ….
I would love to create my own fabric range and lovingly stitch a quilt for my own bed. A quilt which would become a family heirloom. I've made so many things for other people, designing and seeing this come to fruition would be a long-dreamed for treat!
I'd love to design a print inspired by the flowers at my wedding, then use the fabric to make a flowy blouse.
I've been searching for the perfect print to make a dress forever! That's what I'd make!
I quilt, and with some self-designed, digitally printed fabric I could personalize my projects for gift giving this year. I'd also like to try sewing some clothes for myself.
Thanks for such a great giveaway! I would like to design my own fabrics to make a quilt for my daughter's bed 🙂
I'd like to be able to design good quality cotton prints for quilting! Something that isn't all flowers – I like the more modern stuff! 🙂
I need new curtains and would love to try designing my own print for them.
I would like a new purse in my new self-designed fabric!
i'd design a whole collection & make a new quilt for my daughter.
oooo — I'd love to make my own print to cover my gram's old chair that's sitting in the dining room window needing to be covered! (but I'd give the Kaffe Fassett book to my mom for Christmas, I was already thinking of getting that for her!)
I sew, knit, crochet, quilt, do origami etc. Needless to say. every one of these books appeals to me! I guess I would read Kaffe Fassett's book first since I have big a big fan of his gorgeous color and design sense for years.
Ooooh, some funky jammies for my kids! Or a dress for… any of us. or a shower curtain? (I am in trouble…)
i would love to say that i would make wonderful colored throw pillows for my bedroom … but it always comes back to clothing. I would probably find cute vintage buttons and use beautiful prints to make a wonderful little dress for myself or one of my children.
Super awesome! I would make prints for clothing as well as textiles for around the house!
Just learning to figure out the process of textile design would be rewarding, in and of itself. I would love to make a dress for my daughter or a skirt for myself. Thanks for an amazing giveaway!
What a cool giveaway! I'd make gifts for the holiday
This sounds wonderful!
I would use some of my own drawings, perhaps botanically inspired, and make fabric for clothing of my own designs: skirts, dresses, scarves…
Ooh, great giveaway! I'd design something classic and make some new pillows to spruse up my couch.
This might be a bit boring, but I think I'd make some nice throw pillows since I can't find a fabric I'm in love with. Alternatively, I'd use my 2 year old's drawings and make him a quilt.
Thanks for the giveaway!!
I would love to design a fabric that complement a knit I've made: sweater & a dress or skirt. Or maybe something for a grandchild???
Oh gosh, I've have so many projects that I need to make for the house. I would probably start with either some throw pillows or curtains.
Ooh, how gorgeous! I've just moved into a place with a nonfunctional fireplace, so I would love to use a Heather Ross print to construct a pretty fabric screen for it!
I would make cutsie, science-related fabrics and make bags out of them! 🙂 Thank you for the fantastic giveaway!
I would design fabric to cover the world's most hideous chair – which just happens to reside in my bedroom!
Oh, I wish I could tell you what I want to do but it's too unique and has to stay a secret for now!
But once it was done, I would sew madly for all the children I know and more…
Fabulous site by the way, it makes my week, thank you.
