• The Italian mill that makes Echo Cashmere collects excess fiber from the production process of both cashmere sweaters and cashmere yarn and combines it with cashmere from recycled sweaters. They sort by color and then begin the work of turning it back into cashmere yarn.

• The mill spins the fibers into three fine plies and twists them together into this fingering-weight to sport-weight yarn… A beautiful new beginning for exquisite fiber that deserves a second life!

• Echo Cashmere is a woolen-spun yarn, which means it comes directly from carded fiber, unlike worsted-spun yarns, whose fiber is combed first. The result is that woolen-spun yarns have a bit of a "fuzzy" finish and also trap more air, making them lighter, loftier, and bloom-ier than worsted-spun yarns. Woolen-spun yarns, including this one, also tend to have shorter staple lengths (i.e. are spun from shorter lengths of fiber) and can easily break when you tug too hard on them, so be gentle, especially when you're casting on. And keep in mind that, although the strand of yarn is delicate, all those short fibers work together to ensure your finished fabric is not!

• Very soft (it’s cashmere, after all!), the final yarn also includes 5% other fibers. These other fibers are mostly wool, and sometimes a little nylon, depending on the sweaters whose fibers were recycled. This tad bit of non-cashmere inevitably gets mixed into the process, but it’s nice to know that nothing is going to waste!

Please note, because the cashmere comes from recycled fibers, the dye lots may vary a bit more than usually expected. In addition, because this yarn is woolen spun and comes from short, recycled fibers, it can be delicate. Be careful not to tug too hard on it or to knit it at too tight a gauge.
