A joy to knit and brilliantly adaptable to any foot, our all-time favorite Toe-Up Socks pattern is updated so you can now knit it in our lovable, machine-washable Stormy Superwash Sock yarn. And while we were at it, we added new sizes so everyone from little kids all the way up can wear them!

Start out with Judy’s Magic Cast On—just follow along with our great step-by-step tutorial!—to create a no-seam, no-graft toe. Then work the foot, shape the simple flap and gusset heel, and finish with the leg up to the top edge. You can try on your sock throughout, one of the many pleasures of knitting toe-up socks! The tops of the feet and the legs are nice and stretchy thanks to your choice of 2×2 ribbing or an easy Mock Cable Rib… Pretty and practical, either way.

Just right for soft and snug handknit socks, Stormy Superwash Sock is made with 85% fine superwash merino wool and 15% recycled nylon. A sturdy 4-ply construction gives this fingering-weight yarn lasting strength and resilient springiness to stand up to everyday wear and countless trips through the washer.

With a subtle halo and smooth texture, this yarn feels delightfully bouncy on your needles and wonderfully soft on your feet. Toasty warm when it’s cold and stormy yet breathable when it’s hot and steamy, it’s the perfect sock yarn for any forecast!

Stormy Superwash Sock comes in a luminous palette of atmospheric colors and just two or three balls make a pair of Toe-Up Socks… Don’t be surprised if you end up with a whole rainbow of socks from golden sun to storm cloud gray!

Trying to find the yarn pictured above this note. A deep plum and a variegated yarn tat matches the deep plumb shades.
What weight and fiber content are they? Looking for fingering or DK.
TYA, Linda
Hi Linda!
Thanks so much for reaching out. I’m so glad these beautiful yarns caught your eye!
The variegated yarn is Estuary in Violet Hellebore and Nigh DK in French Prune. Estuary is a fingering-weight yarn made from 65% Fine Merino Wool, 20% Mulberry Silk, 15% Linen. Nigh DK is a light worsted/DK-weight and it’s made from 100% cashmere.
I hope this helps, and you find the perfect yarn!
Happy knitting,
Hills
