Ainur Berkimbayeva For Purl Soho: Cross Current Dolman Pullover
Ainur Berkimbayeva’s Cross Current Dolman Pullover flows with the beauty and drama of a river pouring into the ocean, ripples of twisted rib wending over the shoulders and through the valley of the V-neck, colliding with the sleeves’ tide.

Ainur’s love of geometry shines through here, the triangle of the neckline subtly reflected below by carefully spaced increases, all echoing the overall wedge-shape of the voluminous dolman sleeves. This bottom-up seamless design is not only brilliant, it’s also poetry in motion!

And because this roomy sweater is made to be both beautiful and cozy, Ainur knit it up in our gorgeous Plenty. A worsted weight extra fine merino, it is as un-scratchy as wool gets and, with a real bounce to its structure, makes a wonderfully lively knit!

I’m down to the last sleeve on this project and I’m noticing that when knitted as directed : “Make a second identical sleeve,” that the spiral produced from the decreases on the sleeves shows up with one spiral on the front and one on the back. Is there a reverse method to make the sweater symmetrical or is it supposed to look that way? It’s kind of weird that the sleeves look different.
Hi Cathy,
Thanks for writing in! I’m afraid I’m not quite sure what you mean by the “spiral.” Would you mind sending a photo of your work to [email protected] so we can better visualize what’s going on?
All the best,
Lili
