Granny Circle Placemats in Cotton Pure
Set the table for summer with a splash of color and a serving of vintage charm! Our crocheted Granny Circle Placemats bring handmade beauty to everything from kitchen table breakfasts to sunset dinners under twinkling string lights. Crochet your set with Cotton Pure, our 100% organically grown cotton yarn that’s as fresh and colorful as a garden bouquet.

This easy crochet pattern takes the classic design of the granny square and spins it in a circle. You’ll start at the center and work your way out, building layer upon layer of those satisfying clusters of double crochets. Finish up with a colorful edge and your new placemat is ready to adorn your table… It just needs a few friends!

Cotton Pure is a cotton yarn with the perfect blend of beauty and practicality, soft and supple in your hands yet durable enough to toss in the washer and dryer without worry. This sport-weight yarn is beautiful to look at, too, with a big palette of colors that sings of summer, from dappled birch groves and blooming wildflower fields to sun-warmed stone patios and linens fluttering on the line!

Each Granny Circle Placemat uses just one skein of your main yarn color, plus just a little bit of your contrast color. Whether you crochet a coordinated set, play with inversions, or mix up a riot of colors like we did, you’ll find endless inspiration for your summer table… All that’s missing is a clink of glasses, something delicious to pass around, and the laughter of a gathering well underway!

Will these come out similarly if I use cotton chirp instead of cotton pure?
Hi Elana,
These placemats would look stunning in Cotton Chirp! The main difference is that Cotton Chirp is a slightly thicker yarn (DK as opposed to sport) so they’ll turn out a little bigger if you follow the instructions as written. We think it would be a great idea though and would love to see it!
Just be sure to go up at least one hook size and make sure you have enough yardage to complete a mat. A single 100 gram ball of Cotton Chirp and a contrast color should be enough to complete a single mat!
All the best,
