Boundless Granny Square Blanket
A granny square that goes on and on… It’s bound to be amazing! Crocheted in our Cotton Pure, which is a soft, supple, machine washable 100% organically grown cotton yarn, our Boundless Granny Square Blanket pattern is as fun to make as it is delightful.
If you’re new to granny squares, or even completely new to crochet, our How To Make A Granny Square Tutorial walks you through everything you need to know, from how to hold the hook to how to make a double crochet. Try it!
For a boundless blanket without tons of skeins to wind, you crochet the main color using our super satisfying Cotton Pure On A Cone… That’s 2,789 yards of joy!
And for those happy little stripes, pick out four Cotton Pure skeins in colors you love… There are over 30 shades to choose from! We used Tomato Orange, Fresh Lettuce, Lemon Mint, and Beach Rose against a backdrop of Heirloom White for a fresh summer garden palette.
Enjoy each stripe and look forward to the next as you hook up a granny square that gets more charming the more it grows!

GRANNY SQUARE BASICS
If you’ve never made a granny square, be sure to visit our How To Make A Granny Square tutorial. It’ll teach you everything you need to know!
RESET ROUND
As Granny Squares grow, they tend to skew, meaning they twist slightly and no longer form a perfect square. This phenomenon may be less noticeable with animal fibers (like wool or alpaca), but it will be more apparent with plant fibers (like cotton). To balance out this skewing and make a truer square, you will periodically work a “Reset Round,” where you will make (2 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) into each corner rather than the regular (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). These rounds will blend right into your Granny Square and will ensure a big, lovely square!
PATTERN
Make the Boundless Granny Square Blanket by following the charted or written instructions, both below.

Thank you. I did not realize that the stitches in a granny square was twisted. Learn something new everyday.
I love this blanket- could you suggest other color combinations so I could make more than one? Im terrible with picking out such modern, fun colors!
Hi Elizabeth,
I think Honey Yellow, Peacock Teal, Violet Orchid, and Shiso Green would look great as contrast colors! You could pair them with Alabaster Cream for a wonderfully fun combination! I hope this helps!
Happy making,
Gavriella
Do you have a video for the above pattern
Hi Edith,
I’m sorry to share we do not currently have a video for this pattern but we do have wonderful photo tutorial that you may find helpful!
Happy making,
Gavriella
LOVE this pattern! Granny squares are so fun and once again Purl Soho has the best pattern how tos and colors. And the sale is so good! I still need to knit The Incredible Blanket but am excited to make this one soon!
At the end of each round, should I turn the work? I’ve seen several granny square patterns call for this (to help keep the granny square neater), but since this pattern calls for the reset rows, is turning required? Thank you!
Hi Faye,
Great question! This pattern was designed to avoid the need to turn your work every round. You’ll work a “Reset Round” every few rounds, which helps balance out the shape of the blanket and keep it as square as possible.
But you’re welcome to turn your work if you prefer that way of balancing the shape! If you do that, you don’t even need to work the Reset Rounds–just work those rounds normally.
All the best,
Lili
Can this only made crib size, not a larger size?
Hi Jean,
Thanks for reaching out! We designed this blanket in two different sizes, Crib and Small Throw. You can see more details on the dimensions in the SIZES section of the pattern page!
All the best,
Lili
This is amazing, but for a project this big, I need to LOVE it. And I would love a large granny rectangle, instead of a square. I normally alter the pattern but there is so much going on here, would you be willing to try a granny rectangle pattern for this blanket? (I’m a chart teacher btw)
Hi Cecily,
Thank you for writing in! We are thrilled to hear this pattern caught your eye. While we don’t currently have plans for a rectangle version of this pattern, I will be sure to pass your request along to our design team!
All the best,
Gavriella
