There are two basic camps for sewing together finished Granny Squares: crocheting them together or sewing them together. Align two squares and locate the two chain stitches at each bottom corner. You’ll see that one chain stitch is below the other. Start sewing at the lower chain stitch of each corner, marked here with black dots.

Thread about a yard of yarn onto a tapestry needle and sew it under the outer strands of the two marked chain stitches. Pull the yarn through, leaving a 6-inch tail. Sew through these same two stitches again to secure the tail.

Whipstitch through the outer strands of adjacent stitches all the way up the adjoining sides, ending with the two lower chains at the top corners.

Place the next square above the right-hand square, and with a new length of yarn, sew a horizontal seam from right to left. Next, with the original length of yarn, add the top left square by sewing it to the top right square. Finish the quadrant by returning to the length of yarn at the center of the squares and using it to connect the two left squares, from right to left. Continue to assemble the squares in this manner.

And here’s how it looks… Nice and tidy!
