Continue ShoppingMeander Wrap
Graphic and contemporary, yet with a fun retro vibe, our Meander Wrap pattern explores color and value through our newest Nine-Note Bundle palette, cozy Chamomile! These very special gradient yarn sets are made with an incredible mix of fiber: 80% of the softest extra fine merino in the world and 20% lush baby alpaca… It must be experienced to be believed!

The first joyful step is choosing your Nine-Note Bundle palette, each one a carefully calibrated scale of nine 50-gram skeins, starting with a subtle tint and crescendoing to a beautifully saturated pure tone. You’ll work your way through the gradient of your chosen Nine-Note Bundle, punctuating each stripe with a narrow band of Note—the same yarn in single 100-gram skeins. Super easy and satisfying to knit, the meandering scallop pattern is achieved with just simple increases and decreases… Definitely a “one more row! one more stripe!” kind of project!

As you knit, you’ll discover how the changing gradient makes your solid Note color come alive, seeming to shift relative to the gradient but actually staying the same. To maximize this effect, choose a mid-tone for your solid, similar in value to the middle of the gradient. We chose Note’s Reed Gray as the perfect companion to Chamomile’s warm yellows!

Pick up one Nine-Note Bundle and two skeins of Note to knit your own Meander Wrap and enjoy the color play along an undulating path, every stitch along the way made more delightful by the most wonderful yarn you can imagine!

Materials

- Yarn A: 1 of Purl Soho’s Nine-Note Bundles, 80% extra fine merino wool and 20% baby alpaca. Each bundle of this light worsted/DK-weight yarn is a total of 900 yards/ 450 grams; approximately 855 total yards required. We used the Chamomile bundle.
- Yarn B: 2 skeins of Purl Soho’s Note, 80% extra fine merino wool and 20% baby alpaca. Each skein of this light worsted/DK-weight yarn is 200 yards/ 100 grams; approximately 365 total yards required. We used the color Reed Gray.
- US 7 (4.5 mm), 60-inch circular knitting needles
- Stitch markers
GAUGE
25 stitches and 30 rows (15 ridges) = 4 inches in stitch pattern, blocked
NOTE: For gauge swatching, we recommend omitting color changes and using Yarn B only. Just cast on a multiple of 18 stitches, work the Set-Up Row, then repeat the first 4 rows of the pattern until you’ve reached your desired length.
SIZE
Finished Dimensions: 14½ inches wide x 71 inches long
NOTE: This wrap is worked lengthwise, so the width listed above corresponds to the number of rows, and the length corresponds with the cast-on edge.
NOTES
STITCH MULTIPLE
This pattern works over a multiple of 18 stitches.
GARTER RIDGE
A “garter ridge” equals two rows of garter stitch. It looks like a prominent horizontal ridge and is an easy way to count rows!
YARN A COLOR SEQUENCE
Start with the lightest color skein of the Nine-Note Bundle (Yarn A), then use the color one shade darker, and so on to the darkest color.
PATTERN
With Yarn A (using the lightest color skein, see Notes), cast on 432 stitches. We used a Long Tail Cast On.
TIP: When you have to cast on so many stitches, it helps to place a marker or piece of scrap yarn every 50 stitches. That way, you won’t have to start at the beginning every time you lose count of your stitches. Just remove the markers while you work the Set-Up Row, and you’ll be on your way!
Set-Up Row (wrong side): Knit to end of row. [1 garter ridge]
NOTE: Place a piece of scrap yarn or stitch marker on previous row to indicate the wrong side and help you stay oriented.
Meander Row (right side): *[Knit 2 together] 3 times, [knit front and back] 6 times, [knit 2 together] 3 times, repeat from * to end of row.
Knit 3 rows even, ending with a wrong-side row. [3 garter ridges]
Repeat Meander Row.
Knit 1 row even. [4 garter ridges]
*Cut Yarn A.
With right side facing you and joining Yarn B…
Knit 2 rows even, ending with a wrong-side row. [1 garter ridge in Yarn B]
Repeat Meander Row.
Knit 1 row even. [2 garter ridges in Yarn B]
Cut Yarn B.
With right side facing you and a new skein of Yarn A, repeat previous 4 rows 2 times. [4 garter ridges in this skein of Yarn A]
Repeat from * 7 more times, using a new skein of Yarn A each time. [52 garter ridges total; 16 ridges in Yarn B; 4 ridges in each skein of Yarn A]
FINISHING
With right side facing you, bind off knitwise.
Weave in the ends and gently wet block.
