Knit or crochet, worsted-weight or chunky… Our Super Easy Baby Blanket is always just right! We’re thrilled to share a new crochet version of this beloved design, made with the same vibrant Daily Wool Worsted Bundles as our knit version. Whether you’re brand-new to crochet or just looking for a simple crochet pattern to enjoy soothing stitches, this blanket will delight you with joyful color and the soft bounce of beautiful machine-washable wool in your hands.

Seven single crochet stripes, each made with one, two, or three skeins depending on the blanket size you choose… This crochet pattern couldn’t be simpler or more satisfying! You can even weave in your tails as you go by crocheting over the ends for an unfussy finish.

Daily Wool Worsted makes a super soft, irresistibly squishy, and wonderfully practical crochet blanket. It’s a smooth, round worsted-weight yarn that glides through your fingers and bounces on your hook. And because it’s 100% superwash wool, it’s machine-washable and ready for real life… Spills, naps, and all.

Daily Wool Worsted’s subtly heathered colors add extra depth and richness to every stripe. Mix and match your own palette or choose one of our 7-color Super Easy Baby Blanket Bundles, from the warm garden hues of Flower Pot to the tranquil blues of Swimming Hole.

Pick up one yarn bundle to make a Crib size blanket or two or three to make a Small or Large Throw… No matter what, your Super Easy Baby Blanket will be ready for 24/7 cuddles!
P.S. More of a knitter? Use the same Super Easy Blanket in Daily Wool Worsted Bundle for our knitted version.

- Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
GAUGE
16 single crochets and 20 rows = 4 inches
SIZES
Crib (Small Throw, Large Throw)
- Finished Dimensions: 27 inches wide x 35 inches long (38 inches wide x 50¾ inches long, 46 inches wide x 63 inches long)
- Finished Stripe: 5 (7¼, 9) inches high
SAMPLES: We made the Crib size for both of our blankets.
NOTE
CROCHETING OVER TAILS
To spare yourself weaving in tails, try crocheting over your tails every time you change colors! Here’s how…
Join the new color, hold the tails of the new and old color together and lay them right over the top of the stitches you are about to crochet into, then begin to crochet as instructed in the pattern, trapping the yarn tails underneath your new stitches. Keep crocheting until you have crocheted over the entire length of the tails, giving the tails a light tug every inch or so to ensure they lay nice and smooth inside the fabric. That’s all there is to it!
PATTERN
IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER CROCHETER…
With Color A, chain (ch) 109 (153, 185).
Foundation Row: Starting with second ch from hook, single crochet (sc) into each ch to end of row, turn. [108 (152, 184) stitches]
IF YOU ARE A MORE EXPERIENCED CROCHETER…
With Color A, make a Foundation Single Crochet of 108 (152, 184) stitches, turn. (If you haven’t tried this technique, it’s well worth learning! Check out our Foundation Single Crochet Tutorial.)
BEGIN
Row 1: Sc in each stitch to end of row, turn.
Repeat Row 1 until you have used as much of Color A as you can, approximately 5 (7¼, 9) inches from chain edge (note that it takes about 6¼ (9, 10¾) yards of yarn to work one row).
*Continuing with Color B, and crocheting over tails if desired (see Note), repeat Row 1 until you have used as much of Color B as you can, ending on the same side you ended Color A.
Repeat from * with Colors C-G, making sure to always switch colors on the same side.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in remaining ends and gently wet block.

Hi. I bought your learn to knit kit and knit every night while watching basketball games. Well, I knit and then I purl and then repeat til it’s about a foot long and then do it all over again. At 78 it is keeping my hands flexible. But the fat needles are rubbing a couple of blisters, so I’d like to try a size or two “down” from those. Can you tell me 1) what size needle that would be, and 2) do you sell them? Thanks so much. -Peta , Mill Valley, Ca.
Hi Peta,
I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying the Learn To Knit, despite the blisters! We include size US 13 needles in that kit, so the next two sizes down would be size US 11 and US 10. You can find all of the straight needles we sell on our website! We only sell wooden/bamboo knitting needles right now, but another idea I had was that you could try metal needles. Metal has less friction than wood, so that may help reduce the blisters!
All the best,
Lili
With all your beautifully crafted knitted pieces, I have for years wished that you would offer more crochet items and projects. I think knitwear’s ending project are always better draped and with more sophisticated design. However I and other crocheting women are desperate for a similar look.
Hi Sue,
Thank you so much for sharing your interest in seeing more crochet projects! Our design team is busy dreaming up some future crochet patterns, so keep an eye on our website in the months ahead 🙂
All the best,
Lili
I agree Sue! Thank you Purl Soho for working on some new projects for the crocheters.
Could you let me know where in South Africa can I buy this wool. It’s looks lovely 🌹
Hi Ava,
Thanks for reaching out! We don’t have any stockists overseas, but we do ship internationally. We ship to South Africa fairly often, in case you were curious about that too. I recommend going through our shipping page for more details on pricing and average delivery times.
Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, as we are always happy to help our global community of makers!
All the best,
Lili
I am interested in a kit with directions on how to sew a baby blanket with out a hook needle. A friend gave me one made that you do by hand no needles.
Thanks for any help u can be.
Hi Liz,
That sounds like a super fun project! Perhaps the craft is called “finger knitting”? That’s something I’ve heard of where you just use your fingers and hands to knit with very thick yarn–no needles required! I’m afraid we haven’t designed anything like that ourselves, but I’ll pass along your interest to our design team. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help with in the meantime!
All the best,
Lili
I’m a knitter. Do you have any knitting patterns to share
Hi Sarah,
Thank you for asking about our knitting patterns. You can access those anytime by clicking the “All knitting patterns” in the top left hand corner of our site. You can also find a knitted version of this pattern in our Super Easy Baby Blanket pattern page. I hope this helps!
Happy knitting!
Gavriella
Am I reading correctly that the whole blanket is worked in single crochet? 😄
Hi Amber,
Thank you for writing in! That is correct, you will work single crochet stitches throughout each section of this colorful project. While single crochet is one of the most basic stitches, that is what makes it Super Easy Blanket ‘Super Easy’ after all! I hope this helps but please let us know if you have any other questions along the way!
All the best,
Gavriella
I have followed this crochet pattern exactly to make a crib size blanket – i laid down 109 stitches for the first row and have continued for almost 5 inches but the width is only 17 inches, not 27. I am confused and don’t think I did anything wrong but I don’t know why it’s so narrow.
Hi Rebecca,
We are thrilled you are beginning this project! Could you let me know if you were able to achieve gauge on your gauge swatch? This could help me better visualize the issue you are having. If working within the gauge of the pattern (16 single crochets and 20 rows = 4 inches), your starting chain of 109 stitches should work out exactly to 27 inches once blocked.
If you are getting less stitches per 4 inches, you will need to go down a hook size. If you are getting more stitches, you will need to size up! You can also check out our quick gauge tutorial for a more in-depth look on how gauge can impact the size of your project. I hope this helps!
All the best,
Gavriella
I would love to see more crochet patterns. Especially for a throw pillow. I would need a pattern with easier crochet directions.
I used to crochet over 10 years ago and now that I want to start again, it seems that I forgot how to start up again.
Thank you for your interest.
