Oooh, how delightful. I haven't got the hang of brioche but you're tempting me to give it another go.
That is gorgeous!
Soo beautiful -I love the brioche knit.
K
Absolutely beautiful. I think I'm going to give this a go, so stunning 🙂
Was totally lured into the brioche stitch with this project. I'm now 2 inches into this cowl. Lovely!
Absolutely love this! Started over the weekend but my stitch went a bit weird so going to do a take two tonight!!
This is so beautiful!! I've started it three times, the front looks almost right, the back is oh so very wrong. I can't figure out my error, so I'll try again after I finish two projects. any chance you have a video clip of the first two rows of when you add the second color? Truly bamboozled.
Cathrynl77,
With this stitch in particular, it looks oh so wrong for the first 4 or so rounds and then slowly a pattern starts emerging. Unfortunately, we do not have a video of the tutorial. Maybe give it one more shot, working a little farther, and then let me know if you have any specific questions that hopefully I can walk you through.
Thanks for writing in.
We're here if you need anything else.

Love this cowl. I have a question. The wool listed is Jade Sapphire and realise it is 100% cashmere. But on your website it seems to have several different 100% cashmere ply's. What ply or name is this one made with or is the wool specified no longer on your website. I live in the UK and will be looking for the wool here. Thank you!
Hello Mum of Matty.
Please see that we have added a list of the materials used to both this post and the original post. Our apologies for the confusion (and lacking information) and many many many thanks for bringing it to our attention!
Best,
Laura
Hello,
I LOVE this design!!! However, I prefer not to use yarns containing Cashmere fibers because of the environmental impact of the goats' grazing.
Could you recommend alternative yarns & colourways to achieve a similar wow-effect?
Thanks!
Yuniper
Hi Yuniper-
You can use the yarn from the original post- manos maxima shocking: https://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/7529-Manos-Del-Uruguay-Maxima and the suri merino, snow: https://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/3059-Blue-Sky-Suri-Merino
Or if wools don't work you can use the cascade ultra pima natural: http: //www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/7117-Cascade-Yarns-Ultra-Pima
and the blue sky worsted cotton in lotus: https://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/721-Blue-Sky-Worsted-Cotton
Both of the options above are in the hot pink and cream combo.
Good luck with the project and thanks for getting in touch!
Molly

I absolutely love this design! I’d like to make it with your Purl Soho Worsted Twist in Green Turquoise (instead of the pink panther) — would the weight work okay? Also, what color(s) would you recommend to complement it? I know ivory is a classic choice, but your color combos are always beautiful and exciting, so I’m curious what you would pair with it!
Thanks!
Hi Sarah!
I think that would be great! I’ve made this pattern a lot of times on my own, and it is really forgiving to any yarns ranging from DK to worsted weight. I think the Heirloom White is a great option like you mentioned, or I might consider pairing it with the Oyster Grey or the Artimisia! In any case, I’d probably let the Green Turquoise be color A (use a more neutral color for the edge).
Happy Knitting!
Thomas
Thanks so much! Looking forward to get knitting 🙂
Will I need to adjust the number of stitches I cast on or use a different sized needle if I use the worsted twist?
Thanks!
Sarah
Hi Sarah!
I’ve made a bunch of this cowl, and I’ve used all combinations of DK or Worsted Weight – without changing cast-on numbers or needle size. As long as your gauge is close to what is called for, you should be fine!

Have you removed the pattern? Your link isn’t working.
Hello Marni!
Thanks for letting us know! Unfortunately with our site’s new look, some of our previously created links are disrupted. The pattern is very much still available here: https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2011/10/16/ginas-brioche-hat-and-cowl/
Happy knitting and thank you for your patience with us! -Alyson
With your new tutorial explaining Brioche Knitting I am ready to order my yarn and get started! I tried to download the Brioche hat pattern to plan my yarn order and cannot find it online. The two items make a fun to knit AND give Christmas gift.
Hello Lisa!
We’re so sorry that the link isn’t working! Some things are still on the fritz since our new site’s launch!
Here’s the full pattern: https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2011/10/16/ginas-brioche-hat-and-cowl/
Thanks again for bringing this to our attention! Happy knitting! -Alyson
I want to make this with Tosh. Would sport wt or vintage be better? Amd how many yards of each?
Hi Angela,
Thanks for writing in! Looking at the gauge for both the Madelinetosh Sport and Vintage, it looks as though vintage fits the gauge better. You will need 300 yards of each color for a total of 600 yards.
Happy knitting!
-Cassy
I am trying to learn Brioche, but your links to the tutorial are broken and take me to am error page. Pls fix.
Thanks,
Julie
