The "Busy Knitter," as Elizabeth Zimmermann calls herself, is one of the most charming and informative, as well as "un"ventive (her word), knitter-authors ever. Her classic Knitter's Almanac gives full scope to her tireless imagination through a year's worth of projects, fitted to the seasons, from January's Aran sweater to an April blanket and a December last-minute wishbone sweater. As wonderful a read as it is a resource, enjoy stories of canoe trips, fishing expeditions, and snowstorms peppered between step by step instructions and suggestions for alternative methods. Mrs. Zimmermann's hints (such as how to measure gauge when working a pattern and tips for baby's items) help ease the way and will instruct even the most experienced knitter. If we had to recommend one designer for igniting and stoking a passion for knitting, EZ would be it, always supportive, often brilliant, and never dull!
