What's A Knit-Along?
A Knit-Along (or “KAL”) is when a group of knitters work on the same project at the same time, learning from and supporting each other along the way. For this KAL, we'll be casting on for the Dumpling Bag, designed for us by Jeannie Lee, a California-based designer with a love for innovation and whimsy. Jeannie created this cleverly constructed little knit using just one skein of our earthy and beautiful Blackbird Linen. During the Knit-Along, you’ll knit up your own version (or versions!), while we'll send you occasional emails to keep you on track and to invite you to meet-ups on Zoom for some real-time chats!
What To Expect
The official cast on day is June 1st, 2023, but knitters can join at any time between now and the end of the Knit-Along, which is July 9th, 2023.
We'll be sending you emails full of useful info, including links to relevant tutorials and reminders about our giveaways. We’ll also be hosting Zoom meetings for KAL-ers to see each other’s smiling faces and gorgeous WIPs (that’s Works In Progress)! We all want to see each other’s progress, so be sure to share on Instagram with the hashtags #PurlSohoKAL or #PurlSohoDumplingBag, and you can upload your photos right here on this page, too (it’s easy!). We can't wait to see what you make!
What Is The Dumpling Bag?
Jeannie Lee’s Dumpling Bag is a bite-size knit that’s an elegant twist on the simple knot bag. You may learn some techniques along the way, including the Provisional Cast On and Kitchener Stitch and maybe also a thing or two about following a knitting pattern! All you need to make your bag is one skein of our beautiful Blackbird Linen. A light worsted (or DK) weight, this 6-ply 100% French linen is a super hard-working yarn. It makes a strong and sturdy bag with a lovely drape and subtle shine. The Dumpling Bag is a quick and fun knit that’s super useful, too, so be warned, you’re going to want to make more than one!

- Throughout the KAL, we’ll be giving away some our favorite Purl Soho products, including yarn bundles, tools, notions, and more
- At the end of the KAL on July 9th, 2023…
- One lucky knitter will receive a $1,000 Purl Soho gift card
- Two will get $500 Purl Soho gift cards
- Four will receive $250 Purl Soho gift cards
We will also be giving away special surprises throughout the KAL for knitters who share progress photos on Instagram with the hashtags #PurlSohoKAL or #PurlSohoDumplingBag, on this page, or by emailing them to knitalong@purlsoho.com. Plus, eligible knitters who share progress photos by July 9th will also be included in a separate giveaway for another round of Purl Soho gift cards in the same amount as listed above.
We will announce the winners on Instagram and also by email, so please make sure you’ve signed up with your current and correct email address and have cleared Purl Soho from your spam folder.
