  • What if I bought something and then it goes on sale? Can I get the sale price?
    • Yes! If you bought something that goes on sale (or on a deeper discount) within 14 days of your original purchase, we are very happy to honor the new sale price! Just send an email to [email protected] with your name and order number, and we will refund your payment method with the price adjustment.
  • Can you wind my yarn into a ball?
    • Yes, we can wind two skeins into balls for you! Let us know in the Special Instructions box at checkout if you'd like us to wind your yarn and which two skeins (if you ordered more than two), and be sure to check out our winding tutorial to help you with the rest! Please note that wound yarn is not returnable.
  • What if I find a knot in my yarn?
    • Purl Soho's quality standard is no more than three knots per kilo of yarn, which means that you may occasionally find a knot in your skein or ball. If you find more than one knot in your yarn, please reach out to [email protected] so that we can note the dye lot and rectify the issue. However, if you find just one, please know this does happen from time to time, and the way to handle a knot is to untie it and work as you would at the end of a ball. (New knitters, visit our Adding A Ball Tutorial for all the how to's on ending a ball and beginning a new one.) When you're all done with your piece, just weave in these ends the same way you weave in the other ones, and if you need help with that step, be sure to check out our Weaving In Your Ends Tutorial!
  • What do I do if I see discoloration when I block a cotton project?
    • Non-mercerized cottons sometimes oxidize when you air dry them, causing the side that was facing up to yellow slightly. Oxidation is a natural (and perhaps surprising!) process, especially when cotton is non-mercerized and has gone through fewer processing steps from plant to yarn. If you notice this happening, just run your project through a gentle wash and dry cycle and the discoloration will go away!
  • What are the origins and ethical standards of Purl Soho brand yarns?
    • The origins and ethical standards of our yarns are as important to us as their beauty. We only work with yarn producers who share these values by maintaining strict standards for the treatment of animals and workers and by following the REACH European guidelines for environmental safety. Many of our yarns are Fair Trade certified, nearly all of our wool is guaranteed mulesing free, and almost all of our cotton is organically grown.   • How do I download a Purl Soho pattern that I purchased?
    • First, make sure you’re signed into your Purl Soho account, then click your name in the top left corner of any page to go to My Dashboard. There, click My Downloadable Products in the left margin. You will see a list of all the downloadable patterns you have bought from Purl Soho. Click on the Download button next to the pattern that you would like and your download will begin!
  • How do I add a Purl Soho pattern to my Ravelry library?
    • Please note that you can only add Purl Soho-brand patterns directly to your Ravelry library. Other brand patterns that you buy on our site require that you download to your desktop, then upload to Ravelry manually. To add a Purl Soho pattern directly to your Ravelry library, first make sure you’re signed into your Purl Soho account, then click your name in the top left corner of any page to go to My Dashboard. There, click My Downloadable Products in the left margin. You will see a list of all the downloadable patterns you have bought from Purl Soho. In the Ravelry column to the right, click on “Add To Ravelry.” When you do, it will change to “View On Ravelry.” Click that and you’ll be taken to Ravelry’s homepage, where you can navigate right to your library!
  • Are gift cards processed automatically?
    • Emailed gift cards are processed automatically and will arrive immediately in the recipient's inbox. Physical gift cards, like all other products, are processed for shipping Monday through Friday.
  • How can I check my gift card balance?
    • You can check your gift card balance by logging into your account and selecting My Gift Cards. If you do not have an account, you can view your balance during checkout, as long as you have an item in your shopping basket. If you have any questions about your balance, please contact us [email protected].
  • Do you gift wrap?
    • Yes, we do! Just click the "Add gift options" box at Step 3 of the checkout process and follow the prompts. We charge $5.00 for wrapping all of your items together in one box, or $5.00 for each item you get individually gift wrapped. We carefully wrap most items in cinnamon colored tissue paper, secured with patterned washi tape. We then tuck that package into either a vintage-style pink bakery box or a Kraft box wrapped in pink paper. We tie the box with our Speckled Hen yarn and finish it off with a cute tassel and a hang tag printed with your gift message. We're happy to wrap any products we sell that are destined for domestic addresses! (Unfortunately, we can't wrap international packages because they need to be ready for customs inspection.)
  • Can I visit the warehouse in California?
    • Unfortunately, no, our Santa Ana, California warehouse is closed to walk-in customers, although we do very occasionally have sample sales there. Sign up for our newsletter to find out when we’re having our next one!
  • Do I have to pay sales tax?
    • Tax laws passed in 2018 require sales tax be collected and paid on internet sales in all states. Currently we are collecting and paying sales tax, according to local laws, in more than 30 states and will continue to add more states as required. Unless a state law specifies that yarn is not taxable, we collect tax on yarn, even in states where yarn whose end use is clothing is tax exempt. This is because we can't prove to the state taxation board how our customers will use the yarn they purchased. If you have further questions about this policy, please contact us at [email protected].
  • What currency are your prices listed in?
    • All of our prices are shown and charged in US Dollars.
  • Will my international shipment be charged customs fees/VAT upon arrival?
    • Unfortunately, we have no control over customs fees/VAT tax to international destinations. Each country has different rules on what is assessed, so if you are concerned, please be sure to check the limits in your country.

  • I am having a problem with one of your patterns. Can you help me?
    • Yes, we are always happy to help! Just leave your question in the comments section of the project post and we'll get right back to you. You can also write us at [email protected] or even sign up for free 1-On-1 Help, which is a scheduled Zoom call with an expert from our team. 1-On-1 Help is also a great place to discuss what yarn to buy, what pattern to use, what colors to choose, what size to knit... We love a good chat!
  • Can I print or save a pattern as a PDF? Do I have to print all the photos?
    • Yes, you can easily print or save using the PRINT button! If you’re on a desktop version of the site, you will find the Print icon in the right margin just below the Save to Favorites button. If you’re on a mobile version of the site, you will find the Print icon below the pattern and above the comments. Follow the easy on-screen instructions to delete whichever parts of the pattern you don’t want to print or save. For example, you may decide to shorten the pattern by omitting certain images or the list of materials.
  • Where are patterns and projects on your site?
    • Our projects are all located under the menu heading "Create." Wherever you see Create, whether on the homepage or in the upper left corner of any page, click it to get to all our projects! Most of our project patterns are free. Find all the knitting ones by clicking "Free Knitting Patterns" in the top right corner of any page. 
  • Why don't you rate the difficulty of your patterns?
    • We don't rate the difficulty of our patterns because we want people to feel free to try things that are "too hard" for them; we want to encourage people to discover that learning new techniques enriches the process of making; and we don't want to put people in a box that says, "You can make this but not this." We do try to describe the skills involved with a pattern so that customers know what they're getting into, but ultimately, we hope that you will take little leaps into the unknown and find that the satisfaction was worth the challenge! Remember, we're always here to help!
  • Can you let me know when you've posted a new project?
    • Absolutely! Just sign up to receive our newsletter! We always send one about our latest project, and when you join our mailing list, you also get a free 6-pattern booklet to download and 20% off your next order of Purl Soho-brand goods. If you have any questions about signing up for or receiving our newsletter, be sure to read our FAQs on the subject.
  • Can I sell the items I make from your patterns?
    • Unfortunately, items made from our patterns cannot be sold or auctioned. All of our patterns are copyrighted and are intended for personal home use only.
  • Can I use your photo on my site?
    • Yes, we’d love for you to share our photos, just please be sure to credit us by name and to link back directly to our site. Please link to the specific product or project that is featured in the photo and not to the homepage. A #purlsoho hashtag that includes the product or project name would also be appreciated (for example, #purlsoholinenquill)… Thank you!
  • Can I submit a project to be featured on your site?
    • We are always looking for freelance designers! Please visit here to contact us about your designs.
  • Do you offer classes that teach how to make your projects?
    • We are not currently offering classes, but we do have tons of very helpful tutorials!
