Cashmere Ombré Wrap In New Colors
Six years ago Purl Soho partnered with Jade Sapphire to create our spectacular Cashmere Ombré Wrap, a hand-dyed symphony of gradating color and unbelievably soft cashmere.
Back then, we started with just four colors, and over the years, we’ve slowly added palettes to the collection, but this season we are thrilled to welcome five(!!) new colors to our world of Cashmere Ombré Wrap Kits.
Jade Sapphire’s passion for color and expertise in hand-dyeing are on full display in these heart-swooning ombrés, each one an octave of joyful song.
The Cashmere Ombré Wrap Kit includes eight skeins of Jade Sapphire’s 4-ply Mongolian cashmere, each palette traveling from a petal soft wisp of color to a deep pool of pigment. Stunning!
The kit also includes instructions for knitting up a seed stitch wrap (that’s what all the ones here are!) or a mistake rib version. Either way, the finished piece will be your favorite thing you own!
And here are all the new colors in one place! They are, from top to bottom in the stack above, Delphinium, Lupine, Lapis, Glacier, and Fennel.
Fennel, above, joins Cypress in our green family. While Cypress leans yellow in that evergreen kind of way, Fennel is on the breezy, cool blue-side of green. It is as crisp and refreshing as Fennel itself!
Falling between old favorites, Robin’s Egg Blue and Aquamarine, Glacier is an icy spot on the blue spectrum, while Lapis, below, is like looking at the earth from outer space, a swirling blue marble!
Lupine, up top on the model, is a purple party flirting with indigo in its darkest tones, while Delphinium, below, tiptoes in perfect grace on the purple side of blue.
So, fourteen total colors and the nearly impossible job of choosing your favorite. Our advice? Listen to your heart and follow your soul… You can’t go wrong!

Materials
To make your own Cashmere Ombré Wrap, you’ll need a Cashmere Ombré Wrap Kit. It includes…
- 8 very special skeins of Jade Sapphire’s 4-ply 100% Mongolian cashmere, hand dyed exclusively for Purl Soho and this project. Each skein is 200 yards/ 100 grams; approximately 1,600 yards required.
- A full-color pattern booklet, with instructions for making your wrap in either seed stitch or mistake rib
- A Purl Soho muslin project bag

- US 3 (3.25 mm), straight or circular knitting needles

Hi,
I am thinking about ordering this kit. Are you rolling the yarn, I have no way to do that at home. I do not have a winder.
I would like to make the wrap in seed stitch I think, is it a beginner pattern, I am not advanced at all but can do more than knit in purl. If it can be rolled for me I would buy it

Due to the current circumstances and the volume of orders we are filling we can wind 2 skeins guaranteed. These skeins are very easy to wind by hand as well and we have an excellent Winding a Skein into a Ball tutorial on that as well.

Beautiful! I would love to make this as a throw and in merino wool. Do you have gradients in merino?

Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately we don’t have anything quite the same in Merino since the Jade Sapphire Cashmere yarns are all hand dyed to be a perfect gradient! However, we do have a beautiful selection of colors than could work together to form a gradient in our Line Weight and Linen Quill. It wont be a perfect gradient like the Cashmere but you may be able to get a pretty good ombre!

I’m thinking of crocheting this instead of knitting. Will that work? I know it takes more yarn but this seems to be plenty. Please advise.

Thanks for reaching out! I think you can certainly crochet this pattern instead of knitting it! I also think you should have enough yarn but you can always make the width a bit more narrow to insure that the wrap is long enough!

I am making this with the broken rib stitch. My piece measures the 17 across, but the first color is only measuring 6 inches long, not the 9 that the pattern suggests. The wrap will not be near 72 inches if each color is only 6 inches. Any suggestions?

Thanks for reaching out! What is your row gauge measuring in at? It could be that your tension is a bit tight resulting in shorter rows overall!

My row gauge is measuring at 30 rows in 4 inches.
The stitch gauge is measuring at 24 stitches in 4 inches.

Your gauge is a bit different than the written gauge in the pattern (it should be 29 stitches for 4″) typically I would recommend going down in needle size to achieve gauge but since you are finding yourself short on yarn that may not be the best answer! I’m having a problem with gauge as well. I started on a 3 but that was too small. I’m now using a 5, which is pretty close, but my row gauge is 10/inch. Is that close to what it should be? Thanks.

That row gauge does sound like it’s a lot closer to our own sample’s gauge! I think using the size 5 needles will give you a much better result for the entire project. Hope this helps!

Hello, my daughter gifted me this beautiful kit for my birthday. I am excited to knit up this beautiful yarn and have swatched both patterns with 3, 4 and 5 needles. After swatching, I realize that since this will likely be a evening “TV knitting” project I am not enthusiastic about the brain energy and attention it will require to K1P1 or K2P2 for hundreds of rows. What if I did the Super Easy baby blanket pattern but used the recommended cast on stitches for this? I don’t mind if it is not quite the same size, just more concerned about edge curling. Thanks in advance for your help! Holly

Thanks for reaching out. You can absolutely follow the Super Easy Baby Blanket pattern for this wrap! That’s just garter stitch, so it’s definitely “TV knitting” and will not curl at the edges. I hope this helps!

Hi- I would like to try this as a scarf. I could knit it half as wide, and maybe only purchase 4 of the colors- Thoughts about knitting it in the pinks?
Also, suggestions for and edge stitch that won’t curl.

Thanks for reaching out. I’m afraid that we only sell this yarn in the kit with all 8 colors, so you won’t be able to purchase just 4 of them. We’re so sorry for the inconvenience! My suggestion would be either to make 2 scarves, make one really long scarf, or make one normal scarf and a bunch of matching hats or mittens.
But the good news is that neither stitch used in this design will curl at all! We used seed stitch and mistake rib, which are both balanced stitches. Hope this helps!

Thanks for reaching out. We do have a tutorial about this! You can find it right here. While we don’t demonstrate a method specific to seed stitch, I’d recommend using the WEAVING IN ENDS ON THE DIAGONAL method for garter stitch. It will also work for seed stitch!
