New Yarn: Sweetgrass
Welcome our newest yarn, Sweetgrass! A collection of straight-from-nature undyed neutrals, Sweetgrass reminds us of the reasons we love to knit.
Sixty-five percent organic cotton and 35% superfine alpaca, we are fascinated by the play of cool and simple cotton with the depth and elegance of alpaca. A little bit surprising, like salty with sweet, and wonderfully soft to touch, it’s our favorite new combo!
Sweetgrass comes in six undyed colors, all created by fibers that exist in nature just the hue they are. From Pale Sesame to Walnut Shell, nature’s subtlety and variation fills us with awe and wonder!
A fingering weight that knits up to about 7 stitches per inch on US 2 or 3 needles, use Sweetgrass for three-season scarves, wraps, and sweaters, or double it for super cabin-y blankets. At 437 yards per skein, you’ll go far with just a few skeins!

Thanks for reaching out! Yes, I think Sweetgrass would be lovely and soft for a baby blanket! It is hand wash only, which some people prefer to avoid for baby items, but it is wonderful to cuddle with without being too heavy or warm. Although the exact yardage you need will depend on the pattern you select, you will probably need around four skeins for a baby blanket.

What dimensions would you recommend to make the sweet grass blanket if I ordered two kits?

Thanks for reaching out! With two bundles, you would have enough yardage to make a blanket that measures about 48 inches wide by 61 inches long. To do so, you will need to cast on 276 stitches and work each color combination for 11 inches.

Do you think Sweetgrass can be combined with fingering or lace weight silk for a sumner cardigan? Or you think it will be better on its own?

Thank you for reaching out! It certainly could be combined with a silk. I think both options will have beautiful results, it will really come down to personal preference and the gauge require for your project. I would recommend checking out our Cattail Silk and our Mineral Silk It might be a good idea to knit up a couple of swatches to see what your preference is.

Can i use sweetgrass for the baby hats instead of line weight
I cannot find the colors you suggested for your baby hats.
You suggested line weight 199%merino in the storm gray and oyster gray that is why I am trying to see if I can use any other yarn

Thanks for writing in! Using Sweetgrass for the baby hats would change the gauge quite a bit. If you’re interested in using grays in Line Weight I’d suggest the Dove Gray and Fieldstone Gray as an alternate combination. Every so often we update our color collections, and both the Storm Gray and Oyster Gray are no longer available, but our new grays are more heathered and are quite beautiful. I hope this helps!

Would Sweetgrass Fine work for your Terrace Wrap?

Thank you for reaching out! As a lace weight yarn, Sweetgrass Fine will be a little too thin for this particular pattern. However, our original Sweetgrass is a fingering weight with the same cotton-alpaca blend and will make a perfect substitution. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. Sweetgrass, and specifically the Sand Drift Blanket Bundle, can be used for the Plaited Blanket, the crib size of the Droplet Blanket, the Small Throw size for the Color Wash Blanket, and the Knit Four Points Blanket!
