Cotton + Linen Bath Wrap
Sumptuous and substantial, cozy and beautiful, our Cotton + Linen Bath Wrap is very good at making you feel great. Stepping out of the bath, lounging poolside, or hitting the beach, this is the perfect towel for a little R and R!
A simple play of stockinette and reverse stockinette divides the Cotton + Linen Bath Wrap into three triangles. This subtle shift in stitch pattern applied to a bold geometric layout makes for an easy knit and an interesting design.
And that’s just the bones… The real fun begins when you cast on with our new Lantern cotton-linen blend! This fiber works like a charm for drying off, but it also has a decadent heft and soft and nubbly texture that just feels wonderful, as worthy of coveting as any hotel towel, but better because it’s made by you!

MATERIALS
- 9 skeins of Purl Soho’s Lantern, 61% cotton and 39% linen. Each skein is 164 yards/ 100 grams; approximately 1,476 yards required. We used Platinum Gray. (NOTE: We no longer offer Lantern, but choose from one of our other worsted weight yarns.)
- US 5 (3.75 mm), 40-inch circular needles
- A stitch marker
GAUGE
22 stitches x 30 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
SIZE
Finished Dimensions: Approximately 36 inches wide by 52 inches long
NOTES
AVOID COLOR POOLING
To avoid color pooling, alternate skeins at the beginning of each right-side row, carrying the yarn up the right side of the work. Check out our tutorial for more instructions!
INDICATE RIGHT SIDE
You may find it helpful to place a removable stitch marker or piece of scrap yarn on the right side of the work so you can easily stay oriented.
SLIP STITCHES
Slip all slipped stitches purlwise.
PATTERN
Using a basic Long Tail Cast On, cast on 200 stitches.
TRIANGLE 1 + FIRST HALF OF TRIANGLE 2
Row 1 (right side): Slip 1 with yarn in front (wyif, see Notes), purl to last stitch, place marker (pm), k1.
Row 2 (wrong side): Slip 1 wyif, remove marker, p1, k1, replace marker on right-hand needle, knit to end of row.
Row 3 (right side): Slip 1 wyif, purl to marker, slip marker (sm), knit to end of row.
Row 4 (wrong side): Slip 1 wyif, purl to marker, remove marker, p1, k1, replace marker on right-hand needle, knit to end of row.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4, ending with the Row 3 where only 1 stitch remains to the right of the stitch marker.
Next Row (wrong side): Slip 1 wyif, purl to marker, remove marker, p1.
SECOND HALF OF TRIANGLE 2 + TRIANGLE 3
Row 1 (right side): Slip 1 with yarn in back (wyib), k1, pm, knit to end of row.
Row 2 (wrong side): Slip 1 wyif, purl to marker, sm, knit to end of row.
Row 3 (right side): Slip 1 wyif, purl to marker, remove marker, p1, k1, replace marker on right-hand needle, knit to end of row.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3, ending with the Row 3 where only 1 stitch remains to the left of the stitch marker.
Next Row (wrong side): Slip 1 wyib, remove marker, knit to end of row.
Loosely bind off purlwise.
Weave in ends and block gently.
I love the idea of the hand towel and bath towel. Beautiful. What would it cost to do two sets of both?

Thank you so much for the kind words! Each bath wrap takes 9 skeins and each hand towel takes 4, so in total you will need 26 skeins at $19 per skein.

Thank you for reaching out! If you are looking to knit a towel in another style I would check out either our Baby Bath Set or our Color Block Hand Towels . Both of these are smaller than our Bath Wrap, but you could always make them larger.

How would be the best way to clean this towel?

Thanks for reaching out! Although our official recommended care instructions for Lantern are to hand wash and lay flat to dry, our insider practical knowledge is that Lantern holds up great in a cold or warm machine wash and even in a low or warm dry cycle. There may be a very small amount of shrinkage (about 2%) and washing with like colors is always a good idea!

I am very much looking forward to using this beautiful yarn, but I’m hoping you’ll eventually have some pattern ideas for more affordable projects that use Lantern. At $19 a skein, this towel would cost $171 to make. Yikes!

Thanks for reaching out! We hear you! We totally understand that sometimes our yarn suggestions are more of an inspiration than a reality for many people. We are always happy to recommend less expensive (but still beautiful!) alternatives. In this case, we suggest that you try Cotton Pure! You will want to knit a gauge swatch on US 4 or 5 needles to figure out how many stitches you are getting per inch. Once you know this number, you will multiple that by 36 inches to get your cast on number. You may also want to consider our Pebble Dishcloths, which are so lovely and useful and only take one skein of Lantern each!

Instead of makeing a triangle, would prefer to make one big square or rectangle. Since I want to do a simple one thought it would go quickly. Thank you for your free patterns. Also, how many skeins do I need for this item!

I wonder what it would be like to knit this in different colors of lantern? I have 10 skeins of it, all different colors (2 of the kits for the cloths) and I am wondering if I could use them for this pattern. Any thoughts? Thanks! Liza

Dear Purl Soho- I was in the store on Jan. 25, and fell in love with the Lantern yarn that was knit up in swatches and laid out on a table. I purchased 3 skeins with the intention of knitting up a simple early spring scarf. I know I was really pleased with the swatch, but for the life of me I can’t recall the details and I I did not take a photo. Would you please take a fast picture of the Lantern/Dew Blue swatch and email it to me? I think it was garter in the middle but I can’t recall if the border was ribbed or something else? It was 10.5” wide and the sample was knit with size 6 needles. Anyway, thank you very much.

Thank you for reaching out and for your kind words! I think I can help, I believe you were either looking at the samples for the Pebble Dishcloth or the swatch for the yarn on our swatch table. If it was our swatch it would have been knit up in stockinette with a garter stitch border.
